Background / History
Heian-Era Investigation
While occupying the monk Genkai, Kenjaku investigated the “Rope Person” deaths at the Fujiwara Clan’s request. He took Alluka from the Sugawara estate and fulfilled three affectionate requests, prompting Nanika to appear. Rather than make a wish, he asked about her ability and learned that she could grant wishes 16.
After witnessing Nanika turn the novice Huixiang into a jujutsu sorcerer, Kenjaku was ordered to test the consequences of refusal. He believed that using Genkai’s name rather than his own might protect him, but refusing four escalating requests triggered the lethal punishment. He escaped quickly enough to survive, while Genkai’s body and numerous people connected to it were killed 17 18 19 37.
The collective punishment repeatedly caught Kenjaku through his hosts’ personal connections. By the time he visited Sukuna, he had changed corpses five times within a few years. He eventually infiltrated the Fujiwara Clan, uncovered its exploitation of Alluka, and intended to eliminate her; Sukuna took her away before he could act 31.
Conflict with Tengen
Kenjaku warned Sukuna about the sorcerers assembling against him, but avoided explaining his own history when Alluka recognized something familiar about him. He also advised Tengen about the rules of Alluka’s requests, including the restriction that prevented further wish-granting while a current recipient remained missing or hidden 32 34.
During the later confrontation at Sukuna’s residence, Kenjaku instructed Tengen to request healing after sacrificing three body parts. Nanika’s successful restoration changed his priorities: instead of killing Alluka, he wanted to study the being inside her and investigate whether its powers could transform the use of cursed energy 36 37.
Kenjaku attacked Tengen and seized Alluka, but Tengen had anticipated his betrayal and arranged to cut the child’s throat with cursed energy borrowed from Sugawara Satoru. Nanika’s emergence overwhelmed Kenjaku with terror and negative emotions. He abandoned his host immediately; the empty body became a Rope Person, while Alluka and Nanika were sealed inside the Prison Realm 37 38.
The Itadori Vessel Experiment
In the modern era, Kenjaku took over Kaori Itadori’s body to give birth to a vessel for Sukuna. The Itadori family’s unusual bloodline was one reason for his choice. An unexpected twin discovered during a prenatal examination disrupted the experiment 1.
Tests at his Sendai laboratory established that the twins were fraternal and that the second child had a Heavenly Restriction with no cursed energy. Their bodies were clinging together in the womb, making removal too dangerous. Kenjaku endured the pregnancy to protect the intended vessel, despite pain, exhaustion, and mounting resentment toward Jin 2 3.
An emergency C-section delivered both children safely. Jin named the elder Yuji; the younger stirred Kenjaku’s memories, and he named the child Alluka. Afterward, Kenjaku rapidly healed the surgical wound with Reverse Cursed Technique but recoiled in fear after finding his hand resting on a baby’s neck 4 39.
Kenjaku refused to commit himself to raising the twins. He exploited Uraume’s attachment to the black-haired infant to leave him responsible for their care, while pursuing his interest in the Six Eyes and Tengen’s approaching Star Plasma Vessel merger 39.
Concealing Nanika
When Nanika reappeared through three-year-old Alluka, Kenjaku warned Uraume that Satoru Gojo’s Six Eyes could detect her abnormalities. He had deliberately kept Gojo’s missions away from Sendai to prevent Alluka’s ability from becoming known to Jujutsu Society 41.
The subway disaster caused by Toji Fushiguro’s enormous monetary wish defeated that concealment. Once the incident reached international news and Gojo and Suguru Geto were dispatched to Sendai, Kenjaku angrily ordered Uraume to leave and lie low. He continued to regard Alluka as potentially useful, but knew that killing her would provoke the being inside her 47.
Appearance
- Forehead stitches: An uneven suture line identifies his possessed bodies in the Heian-era scenes 16 32.
- Genkai’s body: A delicate-featured young monk with narrow eyes, wearing black-and-yellow robes 16.
- Later Heian-era host: A long-haired young man in a moon-white kariginu, with slightly upturned eyes 34.
- Kaori Itadori’s body: His modern disguise during the pregnancy and birth of Yuji and Alluka 1 4.
Personality
Kenjaku treats bodies, family ties, and supernatural abilities as experimental resources. His pregnancy is a means of producing Sukuna’s vessel rather than an attachment to the Itadori family, and his fascination with Nanika extends to extracting her and having her produce offspring with a human 1 2 37.
His practiced composure depends on retaining control. He presents calm explanations to Tengen and hides behind evasive answers, yet Alluka’s familiarity makes him sweat, Nanika’s retaliation leaves lasting terror, and the Sendai disaster finally drives him to shout at Uraume 32 34 37 39 47.
Self-preservation can override his research ambitions. He prepares replacement bodies, escapes threatened hosts immediately, and abandons the idea of killing Alluka after learning what her death unleashes 2 38 47.
Abilities & Skills
Brain-Transfer Cursed Technique
Kenjaku possesses other people’s corpses by transferring his brain into them, allowing him to survive across centuries and assume different identities 1 31.
- Escapes a doomed host before it is transformed into a Rope Person 37 38.
- Experiences a host’s physical sensations through linked nerves; possessing Kaori does not spare him pregnancy discomfort 2 3.
- His hosts’ existing social connections can expose him to Nanika’s collective punishment 31.
- Occupied bodies remain in a postmortem state; Kenjaku considers ordinary illness theoretically impossible for them 41.
Reverse Cursed Technique
Kenjaku uses Reverse Cursed Technique to heal his host body 39.
- Repeated treatment rapidly closes Kaori’s C-section wound, attracting medical attention 39.
- It does not relieve the pregnancy-related swelling, back pain, and exhaustion he experiences 2.
- He considers using it to save Alluka after her throat is cut, but Nanika begins emerging before he acts 37.
Cursed-Energy Analysis and Research
Kenjaku can sense cursed-energy flow and combines direct observation, laboratory examinations, and infiltration to investigate unfamiliar abilities 2 31 37.
- Identifies the twins as fraternal and detects the second child’s zero-cursed-energy Heavenly Restriction through testing 2.
- Learns the hidden rules of Alluka’s equivalent exchange by infiltrating the Fujiwara Clan 31 34.
- Uses Tengen’s healing wish to test whether Nanika can produce a restorative power opposite to destruction 36 37.
- Cannot perceive Nanika’s usual activation buildup or identify techniques as precisely as the Six Eyes. His explanation of her healing as positive energy remains a hypothesis 37.
Equipment / Items
- Two Sendai laboratories — Prepared for the vessel experiment and equipped to examine the pregnancy 2.
- Replacement body — Kept ready in case the unusual pregnancy produced an emergency 2.
- Buddhist prayer beads — Used while presenting himself as the monk Genkai 16.
- Folding fan — Carried during the confrontation in which he attacks Tengen and takes Alluka 37.
Relationships
- Alluka / Nanika — A former target and research subject whose punishments repeatedly destroyed his hosts. Alluka’s modern birth renews his fear that she might remember his actions 31 37 39 47.
- Ryomen Sukuna — Kenjaku seeks to create his vessel and previously warned him of an approaching coalition. Sukuna also intimidates him into withdrawing his scrutiny of Alluka 1 31 34.
- Tengen — A century-long acquaintance and temporary collaborator. Their incompatible goals culminate in mutual betrayal over Alluka 34 36 37.
- Uraume — An associate whom Kenjaku manipulates into caring for the twins, then relies on to conceal Nanika and manage the resulting dangers 39 41 47.
- Kaori Itadori — The woman whose body he occupies for the Sukuna-vessel pregnancy 1.
- Jin Itadori — Kaori’s unsuspecting husband. Kenjaku rejects his affection and plans to kill him after the birth; the provided events do not establish that he carries out this plan 1 2 39.
- Yuji Itadori — The elder twin produced as Sukuna’s intended vessel 1 4 39.
- Satoru Gojo — A subject of observation and a threat to secrecy because the Six Eyes can detect Nanika within Alluka 39 41.
- Fujiwara Clan — Kenjaku investigates Alluka on its behalf as Genkai, then infiltrates it to uncover the wish-granting scheme 16 31 34.
