Background
Megumi previously attended the junior high investigated during the Yasohachi Bridge case. Former classmates reveal that he regularly beat up troublemaking students, leaving them noticeably deferential toward him when he returns. He is uncomfortable when his teammates discover this reputation 39.
His older sister, Tsumiki, has an unresolved medical condition. During the bridge investigation, the school caretaker asks after her, and Megumi reports that her condition remains unchanged 39.
Gojo introduces Megumi to Tokyo Jujutsu High shortly before the April school term. His disclosure of the Ten Shadows Technique astonishes the other students, particularly Maki Zenin. Megumi knows the technique’s importance to the clan but insists that his surname is Fushiguro and that he has nothing to do with the Zenin family 6.
Appearance
- Spiky hair: His defining physical feature when Gojo first introduces him 6.
- Jujutsu High uniform: Worn during the first-years’ outing to meet Nobara Kugisaki 10.
Personality
Megumi is reserved, blunt, and easily irritated by his classmates’ antics. Chiyo describes him as outwardly cold but secretly lively, and their friendship quickly develops through reciprocal insults and teasing. Megumi also takes schedules and assignments seriously, repeatedly trying to wake Chiyo for classes, missions, and checkout times 6 7 8 11.
His approach to rescue work is pragmatic rather than indiscriminately compassionate. At the juvenile detention center, he prioritizes potentially living survivors over recovering a dead offender’s body, and the victim’s criminal history contributes to his reluctance to take additional risks. This brings him into conflict with Yuji’s insistence on honoring the promise made to the victim’s family 11.
Despite his guarded manner, Megumi becomes openly distressed when people close to him are threatened. He insists on seeing Chiyo after hearing that his friend has become a cursed spirit, and his composure falters when he learns that Tsumiki may be affected by the Yasohachi Bridge curse 33 40.
Abilities & Skills
Ten Shadows Technique
Megumi possesses the inherited technique closely associated with the Zenin clan. Its versatility makes it the focus of Gojo’s advice for his field training 6 7.
| Shikigami | Documented applications |
|---|---|
| Divine Dogs | Summons a black dog and a white dog using a dog-head hand sign. Uses them to locate curses, accompany separated teammates, relay warnings, protect civilians, and attack targets 7 9 11. |
| Well’s Unknown Abyss | A combination of Nue and Toad, summoned to guard against Todo’s close-range attacks. Todo bypasses it before it can protect Megumi 19. |
| Rabbit Escape | Releases a large swarm of rabbits during the final exchange of his first domain battle against Todo 20. |
| Max Elephant | Its released water disrupts Noritoshi Kamo’s control over blood outside his body during the Goodwill Event. Megumi later attributes the effect to the water’s osmotic pressure 49. |
- Successful exorcism: Divine Dogs finish the Grade 2 curse at Tokyo Tsuchido Elementary School after Chiyo breaks its barrier 7.
- Speed limitation: The dogs fail to land effective attacks on the agile special-grade spirit at Sugisawa High School 9.
- Vulnerability: One Divine Dog is violently defeated inside the juvenile detention center’s innate domain 11.
- Continued development: After awakening his domain, Megumi spends time taming additional shikigami; the passage does not identify which ones he completes 21.
Domain Expansion: Chimera Shadow Garden
Megumi’s shadow expands into a churning, shifting pool. Within it, he can sink into the darkness and direct his tamed shikigami to attack in coordinated waves 19 20.
- Concealment: Becomes a shadow and hides within the domain while controlling the battle 20.
- Coordinated pressure: Surrounds Todo with shikigami emerging from multiple positions 20.
- Creative control: Applies Chiyo’s lesson about imagining the possibilities of his technique and turning them into attacks 20.
- Energy cost: His attacks slow as his cursed energy runs low, forcing him to seek a decisive final exchange 20.
- Counterplay: Todo uses Simple Domain and Boogie Woogie to defend against and evade the shikigami assaults 20.
Tactical Analysis
- Barrier identification: Recognizes the overlapping school corridors as a Barrier Technique rather than a domain, and explains the difficulty of breaking one without understanding its structure 7.
- Search coordination: Assigns floors to himself and Chiyo, with a Divine Dog accompanying each student 7.
- Threat assessment: Warns Yuji that surrendering Sukuna’s finger would empower the special-grade curse and jeopardize everyone’s escape 9.
- Emergency planning: Requests a ten-kilometer expansion of the detention center’s evacuation radius before the anticipated special-grade clash 12.
- Technique analysis: Explains the Kamo clan’s Blood Manipulation and retrospectively identifies why Max Elephant interfered with it 49.
Physical Combat and Weapon Training
- Staff practice: Trains with Maki, but struggles with her feints and is disarmed during their sparring session 14 15.
- Close-combat weakness: Recognizes powerful close-range fighters such as Todo as difficult opponents and initially tries to maintain distance 19.
- Later sparring performance: Keeps Yuji, Nobara, and Junpei on the defensive during a group practice session 38.
Equipment
- Training staff — Used during sparring with Maki; no name or cursed-tool classification is provided 15.
Relationships
- Chiyo Shin — Close friend, frequent mission partner, and informal domain instructor. Their teasing relationship includes Chiyo healing Megumi after the Sugisawa attack and teaching him domain principles in exchange for chips 6 9 18.
- Satoru Gojo — Teacher who introduces him to Jujutsu High and encourages fuller use of Ten Shadows. Megumi respects his strength but frequently criticizes his unreliable behavior 6 7 14 33.
- Yuji Itadori — Classmate and dorm neighbor. Megumi asks Gojo to spare him after Sukuna’s incarnation, although their differing views on whom to save later cause an argument 9 10 11.
- Nobara Kugisaki — Classmate and teammate. She joins his attempt to see Chiyo during the Goodwill Event crisis and helps reassure him during the evacuation 10 33.
- Maki Zenin — Senior and combat instructor. Both distance themselves from the Zenin clan; Maki insists that he address her by her first name rather than the family name 6 14 15.
- Aoi Todo — Sparring opponent whose pressure helps trigger Chimera Shadow Garden. Their match ends in a draw, and Megumi thanks him afterward 19 20.
- Tsumiki — Older sister. Learning that she visited Yasohachi Bridge prompts Megumi to leave the investigation and check on her at the hospital 39 40.
- Yuta Okkotsu — Senior whom Megumi says he respected most even before enrolling; Okkotsu is overseas when Megumi introduces the second-years to Nobara 14.
Story Role / Major Arcs
First Missions and Sukuna’s Incarnation
Megumi partners with Chiyo for their first field-training assignment, supplying the search plan and the Divine Dogs that exorcise the school curse. Their next assignment takes them to Sugisawa High School to recover Sukuna’s finger, where Megumi pursues Yuji while Chiyo protects the school 7 8.
A special-grade curse injures Megumi, and Chiyo catches and heals him. Megumi attempts to prevent Yuji from surrendering or swallowing the finger, but Yuji consumes it to protect his friends. After Gojo tests Yuji’s control over Sukuna, Megumi and Chiyo jointly ask that Yuji be allowed to live 9.
Juvenile Detention Center
Megumi’s disagreement with Yuji over recovering an offender’s body is interrupted when the domain separates the team. Yuji releases Sukuna to protect him, and Megumi finds Chiyo and Nobara to request help 11.
Rather than evacuate, Megumi remains outside as a final safeguard. When Chiyo returns with the healed but unconscious Yuji, Megumi carries him and later urges Gojo to address his continued unconsciousness 12 13.
Domain Training and Goodwill Event
After physical training with Maki and firsthand instruction from Chiyo, Megumi awakens Chimera Shadow Garden against Todo. Although he cannot sustain its pressure indefinitely, his first domain battle ends in a draw 14 15 18 19 20.
During the Goodwill Event, Megumi and Kamo stop fighting when they recognize Chiyo’s cursed energy behind the destructive attack. After being rescued, Megumi refuses to accept the report of Chiyo’s transformation without seeing him. He ultimately obeys Gojo’s evacuation order, repeatedly looking back before his classmates persuade him to leave 31 33.
Yasohachi Bridge Investigation
Returning to his former junior high exposes Megumi’s intimidating reputation and provides leads connecting the victims to Yasohachi Bridge. The investigation becomes personal when Fujinuma’s sister reveals that Tsumiki also visited the bridge 39 40.
Megumi goes to the hospital while his teammates remove the curse. His grateful phone call to Chiyo becomes material for teasing when Chiyo records and replays it. Megumi subsequently accompanies the group during Eso and Kechizu’s ambush on their return journey 40 41.
