"So, what kind of person was Mr. Dazai?" Yuji Itadori's question instantly drew quite a few people's attention.
In fact, even among the younger generation who had never met Osamu Dazai, his name often came up.
Yet most jujutsu sorcerers who had lived through that less-than-pleasant era remained tight-lipped about Osamu Dazai.
Even Nanako and Mimiko, who always sang his praises, would only say that Mr. Dazai was a very good person. As for exactly who he was, neither of them would breathe a word.
As a result, Osamu Dazai seemed to stand forever as a legend. The younger generation occasionally heard his name from others, yet knew absolutely nothing about his appearance or personality. Even what he had done was something they had pieced together from scattered accounts.
And even that much was only known to gifted children born into jujutsu families.
Still, this was clearly a special situation. If someone asked now, perhaps they might finally get an answer.
"A very good senior."
Suguru Geto fell briefly silent, but his answer was as conventional as ever.
"Him... beats me." Satoru Gojo slumped forward with his head on the table and mumbled those words.
Clearly, neither of Jujutsu High's two irresponsible teachers had offered anything useful. The students all clicked their tongues in unison, then turned their attention to Masamichi Yaga.
Rather than listen to those two irresponsible teachers muddy the waters, they might as well figure out how to get information out of Principal Yaga and Miss Shoko.
Masamichi Yaga: ...
"He was a good kid."
Masamichi Yaga thought for a moment before giving that answer.
None of their answers offered anything noteworthy. Seeing that even now, no one wanted to tell the story, everyone was about to give up in disappointment when Toji Zenin suddenly chuckled.
He swept a scornful glance over those who had spoken, then leaned back against his seat without a care, clearly having no intention of explaining anything.
That successfully left the younger generation grinding their teeth in frustration.
"Dad, if you won't talk, I'll have a chat with Mom about the Sorcerer Killer when we get home."
Megumi Zenin went silent. Megumi Zenin was bewildered. Megumi Zenin received the signals his classmates were sending him, and after giving them a disdainful look, he still chose to put himself on the line.
This time, Toji Zenin was the one who fell silent. After all his years as an assassin, was he really going to let his own son screw him over? The problem was, if his wife got involved...
Megumi "sells out his own dad" Zenin: quietly concealed his accomplishments.
"He left nothing to chance."
Of course, Megumi gained nothing either. His father shut him down with a single sentence.
Toji Zenin proved through action that the old hands still knew best.
Megumi Fushiguro: ...
The younger generation, excluding Nanako and Mimiko: "Tch."
["Hey, at least tell me where you're going first."
"Sorry, could you not talk to me right now? I'm busy breathing."
"I'll snap your neck, you suicide maniac. Tell me where you're going."
Chūya Nakahara leaped up and kicked at Osamu Dazai, who was standing on the railing. Dazai dodged, and the two passed each other, neither particularly concerned about that little incident.
"I'm going to investigate," Osamu Dazai said evenly.
"Huh?"
"I'm going to ask someone who experienced the explosion up close for information."
"Explosion?" Chūya Nakahara got up from the ground and turned to Osamu Dazai in confusion.
"There was another explosion a week ago, just like the one we experienced. Even the location was very close. No one saw the previous boss, but it probably had the same cause as the case we're investigating."
"I'm going to question a survivor of the explosion." Osamu Dazai turned and silently glanced at Chūya Nakahara, who stood below him.
"If there were survivors, that means there were victims too." Chūya Nakahara sounded somewhat indifferent, though his tone did not match his feelings.
"Yes, from the Port Mafia you hate so much. An ability user managed to survive. You've met him before."
Osamu Dazai spoke calmly. Suddenly, an earsplitting explosion erupted up ahead. Visible flames set half the sky ablaze, while black smoke spread farther into the distance.
"The culprit beat us to it."
"Is this really the time to say that?" As soon as Chūya Nakahara finished speaking, he raced off. Left behind, Dazai merely sighed before quietly following him.]
"Polluting the environment is unacceptable." Masamichi Yaga said it almost reflexively.
After saying that, he paused, his gaze drifting toward a certain pair of troublemaking students. Just as he was about to look toward the third troublemaker, he stopped.
Back when Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto still neglected to put up curtains, all sorts of supposed gas pipeline explosions had occurred.
Of course, what actually happened was that those two would occasionally blow up a house, a building, a sports field, or a school while out on missions.
At those times, Masamichi Yaga would use every approach imaginable to remind them to put up a curtain next time.
He had said everything he could say, and everything he shouldn't have said too. His lectures were a complete jumble that left everyone's ears calloused, but they did help a little.
Osamu Dazai, on the other hand, favored murder and arson... Masamichi Yaga knew about some things. He probably could never know everything, but he had a rough idea.
On another occasion, Osamu Dazai deliberately disappointed Masamichi Yaga, then recklessly blew up a building along with some of the higher-ups inside. Just as on the screen now, the flames had blazed high into the sky.
Back then, the first thing Masamichi Yaga had said was also, "Don't pollute the environment, and don't put yourself in danger."
After that, although Osamu Dazai still occasionally got up to all sorts of nonsense, he was much better than before.
So, yes, Dazai was a good kid.
Still, both Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto had grown into teachers now. They might be just a little unreliable, but they were quite good teachers too.
"Huh? So Mr. Gojo and Mr. Geto used to damage the environment a lot?"
Yuji Itadori's words snapped Masamichi Yaga out of his thoughts and struck Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto straight in the heart. Worst of all, his expression was completely innocent.
"They were Jujutsu High's three biggest menaces. Still, Dazai was a pretty good senior." Utahime Iori looked disdainfully at the two troublemakers in their seats. If she compared them with Osamu Dazai... forget it. They couldn't compare!
After getting thoroughly angry, Utahime Iori proceeded to view Osamu Dazai through eight hundred layers of rose-colored glasses.
Of course, she couldn't really be blamed. After all, who would like someone who went on about how weak they were every single day? Especially when those people were still so irritating, pestering her every time they met.
When she compared them closely, although Osamu Dazai himself was rather distant, he treated every girl like a gentleman.
