Osamu the Dazai Cat Care Manual (Beginner)

Note: this care manual applied only to my interpretation of Dazai Cat. It was not very suitable for other interpretations of Dazai Cat, so please do not imitate it.

1: Please provide Dazai Cat with a sufficiently dark, clean corner or room.

(Dazai Cat was a very fragile creature, and one adapted to the dark. Prolonged exposure to blazing sunlight was detrimental to his well-being and, in severe cases, could make him ill.

However, Dazai Cat was not precious about himself. Even if he remained ill for a long time, he would not consider recovering on his own, much less care about his injuries.

Therefore, please pay particular attention to the cleanliness of Dazai Cat's room and his mental state.)

2: Pay attention to Dazai Cat's mental state and respect his wishes. Please make sure to lavish all your care and favoritism on Dazai Cat, and prepare to be tested by him.

(Dazai Cat possessed extraordinary intelligence and the ability to see through people's hearts. He could easily run circles around any number of people.

But Dazai Cat was also a coward. He feared anyone coming close, and anyone who approached him could inadvertently get scratched.

Example: when someone tried to approach Dazai Cat, he lashed out in a panic and scratched them. That person continued approaching him, and Dazai Cat slowly softened.

But after being tested again and again, that person ultimately could not take it anymore and chose to give up on Dazai Cat.

At that point, Dazai Cat would fall into an extremely depressed and complicated emotional state.

See? That's what people are like. No one will ever be kind to me. I made the right choice.

Dazai Cat's mental state was extremely fragile. If you could not accept being inadvertently scratched by him, you should rule out adopting him from the start. Timidity and sensitivity were traits of creatures of the Dazai species, including but not limited to my interpretation of Dazai Cat.

Therefore, if Dazai Cat began testing you, that was much better than him ignoring you from the outset.

Because at that point, Dazai Cat had already slowly begun to soften toward you. If you made it through the testing period, you would become one of the rare people he held dear.

Dazai Cat was a very adorable creature. Please pay a little more attention to him.)

3: Please prepare Crabmeat Cans, shelled crab, and alcohol for Dazai Cat, and provide nutritionally balanced food at appropriate times.

(Dazai Cat paid no attention to his physical condition, which also meant he would not consider nutritional balance himself. Naturally, that responsibility would fall to his caretaker.

Dazai Cat was extremely partial to Crabmeat Cans and alcohol, to the point that he could barely do without them.

A suitable amount of Crabmeat Cans and alcohol could serve as a little bribe for Dazai Cat, who would be very accommodating at such times.)

4: Dazai Cat liked attempting suicide. Please do not panic.

(When Dazai Cat attempted suicide, you could quietly wait until he finished, then take him home to rest and recover.

You could also intervene in his suicide attempts when appropriate, but do not stop him right from the beginning.

Example: after Dazai Cat hanged himself, you could take him down from the rope.

When Dazai Cat jumped into a river to kill himself, you could wait a while before fishing him out.

In short, Dazai Cat's suicidal behavior was normal. When he could not find any meaning in living, he would choose death.

But please do not worry. Dazai Cat's suicide attempts had a very low success rate. However, that did not mean success was impossible, so all caretakers should pay attention to his safety while also looking after their own physical and mental health.)

5: Please prepare an assortment of bandages specifically for Dazai Cat.

(Dazai Cat felt no particular fondness for almost anything.

Bandages were the sole exception. Bandages were Dazai Cat's true form; being without them was like being without clothes.

Therefore, a Dazai Cat without bandages would suffer a low-mood debuff. Please do not casually put him in a low mood, as the consequences would be extremely serious.)

6: Please try not to mention names such as Nozomu Sakai, Sōsuke Mizukawa, Odasaku, or Ango Sakaguchi in front of Dazai Cat.

(If these names were mentioned, Dazai Cat would suffer a low-mood debuff, accompanied by an anger attribute.

However, Dazai Cat would usually conceal these feelings in his heart and keep his caretaker from knowing.)

Finally, once caretakers had finished reading this beginner's guide to caring for Dazai Cat, they could begin considering getting a Dazai Cat of their own.

Although this could not guarantee Dazai Cat's survival or attachment to you, it could just barely bring you up to the minimum standard for adopting him.

Please cherish Dazai Cat and refuse to abandon him. If you could not accept him from the very beginning, you absolutely must not choose to adopt him.

Because for Dazai Cat, never receiving anything was better than losing it, and never having anything was better than waking from a grand dream.
