A strange tremor rose from deep underground, breaking the long-standing silence.
The sand and gravel on the ground trembled faintly, as though something heavy were slowly moving beneath them.
Within seconds, however, the loose stones went from trembling to bouncing wildly without rhythm.
The tremors rapidly grew stronger and more frequent. Qin Siyang and Hu Chan could both sense some enormous beast awakening from its slumber, gradually unleashing the strength it had long stored up.
They exchanged a glance, cold sweat involuntarily running down their foreheads.

Both of them immediately sprinted back the way they had come.

Somehow, Hu Chan was fleeing only slightly slower than Qin Siyang.
But fast as they were, they were nowhere near fast enough to reach safety.
The tremors spread at an alarming speed. The ground beneath their feet bucked nonstop, and huge rocks rolled all around them.

Amid a rumbling din, the ground not far from them began to bulge.
Qin Siyang glanced back and sensed that an enormous creature was about to burst out of the earth.

Sand and gravel were violently shoved aside as a gigantic worm's head erupted from underground.
The deafening crash of colliding rocks came from every direction.
Stones kept raining down beside Qin Siyang and Hu Chan.
Hu Chan barely evaded them by altering the terrain around himself.
Rather than let dodging slow his escape, Qin Siyang punched apart the rocks falling toward his head or into his path.
As he fled, Qin Siyang caught a glimpse of the Sandworm out of the corner of his eye.
It was like a prehistoric monster emerging into the world once more.
The Sandworm was so enormous that he could
