When Captain Chu left the large tent, he had a black eye on each side.
Nana, the young Sword Immortal, shoved Chen Ye and Iron Lion aside and stormed out of the tent in a huff.
Chen Ye gave Captain Chu a look that said he deserved it, then walked straight out of the tent.
The convoy soon set off.
Captain Chu's modified off-road vehicle led the convoy.
Behind it was the young Sword Immortal's modified off-roader.
Next came Chen Ye's Motor Tricycle.
Iron Lion's bus brought up the rear.
Behind that were the other survivors.
Perhaps to reach Longevity Village sooner, they traveled a little faster that day.
The convoy soon stretched into a long, winding line.
At the very back were survivors traveling on foot, without any means of transportation.
Some carried backpacks, while others followed the group with nothing at all.
Chen Ye kept feeling a pair of venomous eyes watching him.
Yet whenever he turned to look, he found nothing.
After a few times, Chen Ye stopped bothering.
He lit an HTS, and the rich scent of tobacco filled his nostrils.
Chen Ye exhaled a long plume of smoke.
Back in the large tent, when the Eavesdropping Radio had played Captain Chu's complaints, it had mentioned that the price of the Titan Sequence was reduced intelligence.
If that was true...
Did every sequence come with a price of its own?
What price did Nana pay for the Sword Immortal Sequence?
And what price did Captain Chu pay?
Was Captain Chu's price being a loudmouth?
If so, that actually seemed pretty plausible.
Also, the Eavesdropping Radio was very useful. It had actually analyzed the information about Longevity Village with remarkable clarity.
That would save them a lot of effort.
It would also make scavenging for supplies much safer.
But just now, the radio had utterly humiliated Captain Chu in front of all those people.
Clearly, the Eavesdropping Radio had side effects too.
Did every strange item have side effects?
Chen Ye mentally sorted through the information he had gathered, committing it to memory.
Everything he knew about Sequence Transcendents had come from the past two days.
Every piece of information about Sequence Transcendents was crucial.
Keeping one hand on the motorcycle's handlebars, Chen Ye tossed away the HTS he had smoked down to the butt and lit another.
Chen Ye was a heavy smoker, and he still had plenty of cigarettes left from his last scavenging trip to Apricot Blossom Town.
As such, conserving cigarettes never even crossed Chen Ye's mind.
The gauge on his motorcycle showed that the fuel tank was nearly empty.
Just then, startled cries suddenly rang out from the convoy.
"A village! There's a village up ahead!"
"Good heavens, it's a village! After all these days, we've finally found a village!"
"..."
The clamor sounded somewhat familiar to Chen Ye.
The same thing had happened when they discovered Apricot Blossom Town.
Captain Chu's modified off-road vehicle suddenly accelerated.
Nana's vehicle followed close behind.
Chen Ye twisted the throttle, but his Motor Tricycle kept puttering along at the same leisurely pace.
Chen Ye realized his tank really was out of fuel.
The bus behind him accelerated and left him in its wake. Chen Ye could even see Iron Lion's broad, guileless grin inside.
Then the other two vehicles quickly followed.
After all these days of travel, everyone's supplies had completely run out.
Chen Ye ended up arriving at the village entrance behind everyone else.
Looking at the village, Chen Ye felt waves of cold rising from deep within.
All the survivors, young and old, men and women alike, stood at the village entrance with fear in their eyes, yet they were also itching to venture inside.
It was noon, with the sun blazing overhead.
Yet the village before them felt dark and gloomy.
It was as though sunlight could not reach Longevity Village at all.
They were clearly in the same world, yet Chen Ye felt as if Longevity Village existed on another plane.
As he studied the village, a trace of gravity settled over Chen Ye's face.
Why did Longevity Village feel even more terrifying and dangerous than Apricot Blossom Town?
"Sis, why do I feel... why do I feel..."
Looking at Longevity Village, Zhou Xiaoxiao felt a chill welling up relentlessly inside her.
When she lowered her head, she found the backs of her hands covered in goosebumps.
"This village... Xiao Xiao, maybe we shouldn't go in."
Zhou Lan felt the same as her younger sister, Zhou Xiaoxiao. Merely looking at Longevity Village made her uneasy.
"Sis, we're out of supplies too. This morning, we had to share one packet of instant noodles, and we don't have much gasoline left either."
"Longevity Village is our only chance!"
"If we don't gather supplies..."
Zhou Xiaoxiao trailed off.
Zhou Lan could not deny it either. Everything her younger sister had said was true.
If they could not find gasoline, death was all that awaited the two sisters.
Although the village ahead did not look like it had a gas station.
Even so, they had to go in and try searching.
Zhou Lan unconsciously looked toward Chen Ye, who stood a short distance away.
After all, Chen Ye was a Sequence Transcendent.
If he looked after the two sisters, perhaps their chances of escaping Longevity Village safely would be greater.
But the two of them had already thoroughly alienated Chen Ye.
"It's eleven in the morning right now!"
"You must leave Longevity Village before four this afternoon."
"We won't wait for anyone who's late!"
Wearing sunglasses, Captain Chu shouted through a megaphone.
Everyone who heard those words reacted differently.
Terror flashed across some faces!
Hesitation appeared on others!
Some even clenched their jaws repeatedly, staring fiercely toward Longevity Village.
From where Chen Ye stood, he could clearly see an immensely tall willow tree in the middle of Longevity Village.
The willow was enormous, unnaturally so.
Its hanging Willow Branches dangled in a disheveled mass, like a woman's hair.
Suddenly, Chen Ye narrowed his eyes slightly.
At some point, a figure had appeared at the entrance to Longevity Village.
It was a hunchback, his back bent and a cane planted in his hand, straining to turn his face toward Chen Ye and the others.
Perhaps because of his hunched back, he seemed to have great difficulty looking toward the survivors.
The hunchback chuckled at them.
His smile was sinister and terrifying!
"That's... a person!"
"There's someone at the village entrance!"
"Good lord, could there still be living people in the village?"
The sudden appearance of this figure sent all the survivors into an uproar.
In a place where no living person could possibly exist, there was actually someone alive.
An old man, at that.
No matter how they looked at it, the sight was eerie.
Chen Ye turned to Nana beside him.
The young Sword Immortal's expression grew a shade graver. "The Eavesdropping Radio said there were no living people in this village."
