Wenlong was just about to fly away on his sword when the girl stepped forward and grabbed his sleeve. "Big sister, take me with you. I don't have any family left."
"I'm a big brother," Wenlong corrected her despite himself, looking embarrassed.
"Oh, I understand. Big sister, I'll behave, and I can help you with lots of things," she said earnestly.
"Well..." Wenlong wanted to correct her again, but seeing the little girl's expression, he gave up.
This put him in a difficult position. He had no fixed home himself. How could he take her along?
"Big brother, I can do anything. Please take me with you." The girl's face was full of pleading.
Alas, they were both ill-fated souls. Once he left, even surviving would be a problem for her. He could not bear to simply abandon her.
"All right. If you have somewhere better to go, that would be best. Staying with me might be dangerous," Wenlong warned her nonetheless.
"I've already died once. I'm not afraid of anything. Please take me with you." Seeing that Wenlong was wavering, the girl hurried to declare her resolve.
"All right, then. Let's go." Wenlong lifted his treasured sword into the air and, holding the girl, flew off into the distance.
His own future was uncertain, and taking a little girl along was certainly no good thing. Yet faced with her plight, he simply could not harden his heart and leave her behind.
He brought her to a small city, planning to eat and rest before continuing to Lingnan City.
They found an inn first and washed up before going out to find a restaurant.
At a little tavern, a tableful of delicious dishes was served. The two were just about to pick up their chopsticks and feast.
Then they noticed
