Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mental Power awakened | 11 | After exposure to Spirit Water, discovers that he can perceive his surroundings with his eyes closed. The ancestor’s record identifies Spirit Water as a means of awakening this ability. |
| Before Qi Refining — stalled | 17 | Cannot approach Qi Refining despite following the ancestral notes. Relies on hidden weapons, Shadow Step, and Mental Power instead. |
| Spiritual-energy absorption begins | 81 | On the Azure Dragon Continent, finally draws spiritual energy into his body. His earlier foundation on the Azure Plains Continent allows unusually rapid progress. |
| Middle Dao Realm | 84 | Reaches the middle stage during secluded cultivation intended to strengthen the village’s defenses. |
| Late Dao Realm | 84 | Advances after several more days, then stalls without Spirit Stones or medicinal pills. |
| Late Lord Realm | 85 | Absorbs Spirit Stones and Spirit Coins, crossing an entire realm in one breakthrough. His Shadowless Needles become faster and more penetrating than his Mental Power can comfortably track. |
| Sage Realm attempt — unsuccessful | 86 | More than ten days of cultivation fail to overcome the remaining barrier. Recognizes that he needs a deeper foundation and experience outside the village. |
| Emperor Realm | 93 | Uses a self-refined Qi-Attracting Pill to advance from the Sage Realm; the earlier Sage breakthrough is not shown in the supplied passages. |
| Late Emperor Realm | 93 | Reaches this stage during a long seclusion, emerging at fifteen. Falls short of his intended Earth Realm breakthrough. |
| Middle Earth Realm | 99 | Qi-Attracting Pills and Spirit Stones carry him into the Earth Realm and onward to its middle stage. Further pills and more than 100,000 Spirit Stones fail to advance him again. |
| Heaven Realm | 103 | Breaks through while refining Ground-running Chicken meat during his Death Forest journey. |
| Peak Divine Realm | 120 | Before returning to his homeland, is described as one step away from becoming a Human Immortal. The intervening breakthroughs are not detailed. |
| Third-rank Earth Immortal | 139 | Consumes his remaining Qi-Attracting Pills and Spirit Crystals during more than ten days of seclusion, exhausting his crystals. |
| Heavenly Immortal | 148 | Advances after prolonged cultivation in Flame Mountain’s magma chamber. The additional strength helps him absorb the Fire Spirit Marrow. |
| Immortal Stage | 168 | Studying a dangerous sword ray brings a breakthrough. Physical strength surges and Mental Power increases severalfold. |
| Golden Immortal attempt — unsuccessful | 184 | Enters seclusion to improve his ability to protect Dragon City and his family, but lacks sufficient accumulated cultivation. |
| Primordial Unity Realm | 201 | Reaches this realm while studying the Great Black Stone’s Sword Dao and formation mysteries. |
| First layer of the Infinite Realm | 218 219 | Survives an unexpectedly severe three-colored heavenly tribulation. Gains substantially stronger bodily functions and instantaneous formation deployment. |
| Late first layer of the Infinite Realm | 220 | Advances from the middle to the late stage while cultivating Sword Dao and Array Dao at the Great Black Stone. |
| Second level of the Infinite Realm | 224 225 | Survives his second heavenly tribulation with minor injuries, using his own tribulation lightning, defensive formations, and sword. |
| Dan sea formed early | 230 | Little Light destroys and reshapes his dantian into a vast dan sea while he remains at the second level—a transformation normally associated with the eighth-level Infinite Realm tribulation. |
| Origin Source abilities mastered | 231 | Little Light teaches him its abilities. His fire, ice, and lightning techniques become several times stronger through their connection to Origin Sources. |
| Third level of the Infinite Realm | 233 | Survives a four-strike tribulation. His thunder source absorbs part of the final four-colored strike, and the source of life rapidly repairs his injuries. |
| Fourth level of the Wuji/Infinite Realm | 238 239 | His Origin Source devours the Great Black Stones’ spell mysteries, accelerating his cultivation. Survives the subsequent tribulation and gains stronger defenses and the Void Great Palm. |
Background / History
Wenlong came to this world from another world, keeping his original name and memories. He grew up in a loving family, but conflict with the Kai Lineage killed his two elder brothers, who died protecting him. His grandparents also fought to the death for their clansmen, and his father suffered grievous injuries. These losses made the ability to protect his family central to his ambitions 11.
In an ancestral chamber, he found Spirit Water, an ancestor’s remains, and records explaining the Wen Lineage’s hidden origins. The ancestor was Long Ying, a survivor of the devastated Long clan on the Azure Dragon Continent. Long Ying had founded the Shadow Assassin Organization to preserve his branch and pursue vengeance 11 12.
Wenlong later confirmed his main-branch heritage when Elder Wang recognized his Dragon Family martial arts and compared their lineage tokens. He accepted responsibility for restoring the scattered family, but insisted that its original surname remain concealed until it had sufficient strength 81.
Appearance
- Slight build: Early in his training, considers himself unsuited to brute-strength weapons and favors ranged attacks and paired daggers 23.
- Stealth clothing: Designs black and white hooded cloaks for nighttime operations and movement through snow respectively 19.
- Shortened hair: Returns from Flame Mountain with unusually short hair, explaining to Yuan Jing that it resulted from his training 148.
- Disguises: Uses changed clothing, masks, and concealed cultivation to avoid recognition during thefts, pill sales, and expeditions 65 139 196.
Personality
Wenlong is deeply attached to his family. He prepares wealth and useful texts before leaving home, hopes to find medicines that can prolong his parents’ lives, and repeatedly builds secure settlements before attempting to bring his relatives into more dangerous worlds. Long absences nevertheless strain his household; after an argument with his sons, he recognizes that he has neglected the same family closeness he expects from them 66 154 163.
His compassion coexists with severe methods. He protects an orphaned performer, a coerced craftsman, and a child threatened during a village massacre, often accepting personal risk to do so. Against enemies, he uses assassination, forced labor, execution, and soul imprisonment. His concern for public welfare does not prevent him from exercising coercive control over defeated opponents 33 70 137 226 247.
He prefers preparation to reckless confrontation: scouting, disguises, escape routes, formations, and carefully chosen allies recur throughout his plans. Defeats by the Thunder Eagle, failed breakthroughs, and encounters with supreme experts repeatedly expose his limits. He also favors delegation, allowing Shitou to command battles and Sister Wang to administer Dragon City while he concentrates on cultivation 44 93 190 208 221.
Abilities & Skills
Mental Power and Divine Sense
- Awakens through Spirit Water and initially uses it to perceive his surroundings and track hidden weapons 11 17.
- Controls the movement of Shadowless Needles; rapid increases in cultivation can leave his Mental Power unable to keep pace with their speed 85.
- Secretly disrupts bandits during a caravan attack without openly revealing his involvement 134.
- Grows several times stronger through studying Yuan Tiancheng’s formations, though initially lacks instruction in its wider applications 154.
- Obtains a mental-cultivation method from a fallen expert and develops enough power to disrupt distant attacks 168.
- Perceives secrets within the Great Black Stones that his companions cannot initially detect. Repeated probing strengthens his Mental Power but causes dizziness and exhaustion 196 197.
Hidden Weapons and Movement Arts
- Uses stones, darts, daggers, and Shadowless Needles as early alternatives to cultivation-based strength 17 23 82.
- Performs Goddess Scatters Flowers, striking multiple hanging targets with handfuls of pebbles 24.
- Practices Shadow Step, later Shadowless Step, and Shadowless Skillful Hands alongside Dragon Family techniques 17 93.
- Combines stealth and Shadowless Needles to incapacitate five Heavenly Immortals before interrogation 146.
- Designs moving targets to teach anticipation rather than accuracy against stationary opponents 23.
Sword Dao and Martial Arts
- Demonstrates all eighteen foundational martial disciplines, while initially favoring paired daggers for close combat 23 24.
- Practices the Dragon Family’s sword and saber arts, which help establish his lineage identity 81.
- Masters the Sword-Driving Technique and aura-concealment arts after two months of training 101.
- Reaches major accomplishment in the Heaven-Splitting Sword Art during mountain training 146.
- Learns sword rays, sword qi, and sword intent by repeatedly facing dangerous attacks in the ancient battlefield 168.
- Gains the Void Great Palm, allowing attacks anywhere within his psychic-perception range; its first test destroys a distant mountain peak 239.
- Fights Nezha to a draw for three days. Against the stronger Erlang Shen, relies on mobile combat and formation-enhanced evasion rather than direct exchanges 249.
Array Formations
- Receives Yuan Tiancheng’s legacy and studies it for six months before repairing the master’s tomb and restoring its damaged formations 153 154.
- Builds protective formations for settlements and teleportation arrays for travel, reinforcement, and rescue 154 197 221.
- Reaches great accomplishment in array formations through prolonged seclusion 203.
- Studies and replicates heavenly-thunder formations to prepare for tribulation 207 218.
- Gains instantaneous deployment after his first Infinite Realm tribulation 219.
- Uses formations to strengthen defense, speed, and evasiveness during battle 249.
- Can dismantle complex formations, but hostile regions may restrict his perception and other abilities. Stronger attacks can still shatter his defenses 153 218 229 231.
Fire, Ice, Lightning, and Origin Sources
| Power | Documented applications and limits |
|---|---|
| Fire Control Art | Reaches minor accomplishment after three days; uses it in combat and to improve pill refinement 139. |
| Fire Spirit / Fire Spirit Marrow | Absorbs the marrow at Flame Mountain despite severe burns. Spiritual fire clears dangerous vegetation and creatures; accumulated small flames later overwhelm Giant Spirit God 148 153 249. |
| Ice Spirit Marrow | Uses fine threads to immobilize worms inside Chen Li’s meridians. Its clash with Fire Spirit Marrow requires Mental Power suppression 148 163. |
| Tribulation lightning | Trains with three-colored lightning, strengthens it through later tribulations, and destroys Li Jing’s Iron Pagoda with Five-Colored Heavenly Thunder 224 233 249. |
| Life source | Rapidly heals serious internal and external injuries after combat and tribulation 231 233. |
| Light and darkness sources | Absorbs the Forbidden Grounds’ darkness, restoring daylight, extending usable Mental Power, and allowing communication talismans to function 231. |
| Devouring | Little Light absorbs other origins and their powers; the Origin Source later gathers the Great Black Stones’ spell mysteries into itself 230 238. |
| Time-source attacks | Uses time alongside lightning, fire, and ice in his opening attack against the Heaven Realm’s army; the supplied account does not explain the technique’s mechanics 247. |
- Origin-powered techniques still require tactical adaptation: fire, sword attacks, and ice fail against a huge armored monster before thunder proves effective 231.
- Little Light is an independent, speaking entity. Wenlong’s attempt to imprison it backfires; cooperation succeeds where force does not 230.
Alchemy and Healing
- Studies the clan’s medical books and supplies formulas for Wound Powder, Bruise Liniment, and Life-Extending Pills 33 49.
- Refines high-quality Qi-Attracting Pills for his own breakthroughs, his clansmen, and the Thunder Eagle 93.
- Produces Beauty-Preserving Pills, Life-Extending Divine Pills, and several Realm-Breaking Pills for auction 141.
- Diagnoses poisoning in Wang Dong’s father and prepares a remedy that allows him to walk again by the next day 134.
- Treats Chen Li’s parasitic meridian damage with controlled ice and prepares pills for his damaged dantian 163.
- Repairs broken bones and severed tendons in the Twin Dragons and Monkey Sun, then refines pills for their remaining internal injuries 189.
- Teaches Yuan Jing alchemy and provides rare mental-cultivation instruction to Lin Dong 141 219.

- Organizes martial training, literacy, practical apprenticeships, medical work, and specialized sect halls 33 44.
- Uses limited pill supply—described as “hunger marketing”—to build demand and auction interest 141.
