Ben Turner opened his eyes a fraction and saw a white ceiling and fluorescent lights. He could also sense other people in the room.
He lay motionless on the bed, pretending he had not woken up yet. He tried moving his tongue and jaw, then gently swallowed.
Normal.
Then he discreetly flexed his fingertips and toes.
Normal.
Good. Whatever had happened with the bomb removal, at least he was not paralyzed.
Turner took a deep breath and coughed. Someone beside him walked over and greeted him. "You're awake?"
"Sheriff?"
Turner shifted his eyes and saw Li Jie and Wilson standing beside him. His throat felt painfully dry, but he managed a smile and asked, "How did the surgery go?"
"The doctor said it was a complete success." Li Jie nodded solemnly. "You're a girl now!"
"Oh, that's good... Σ(°△°|||)︴ What?!"
Ben Turner nearly leaped out of bed in fright, frantically reaching down. "What kind of surgery did you people give me?!"
"Just kidding! Just kidding!"
Li Jie and Wilson held him down on the bed to keep him from moving. "It's still there! It's still there!"
Turner insisted on checking for himself before finally relaxing.
"That was terrifying. I'd rather have my head blown off." He looked at the two men. "Seriously, I'm grateful to both of you. So what happens next? What are you planning to do with me?"
Li Jie pulled up a chair and sat beside the bed. "What about you? What do you want to do?"
"Me?"
Turner glanced sideways at him. "The League of Assassins brainwashed me once. I killed a lot of people. I joined Waller's squad because she promised to wipe my record clean. As for now..."
He shook his head slightly. "I don't know."
"Wiping your record isn't exactly difficult," Wilson chimed
