There were even a few get-well cards from officers in other Gotham precincts whom he didn't know at all.

"Sheriff, your friends certainly are enthusiastic, aren't they?"

Dr. Crud approached the bed with several test reports in hand. "Your latest results are back, and they're simply..."

His eyes brimmed with fervor and curiosity as he stared at Li Jie. "You're nothing short of a medical miracle."

"A medical miracle."

"According to the initial assessment, your femoral artery was severed, with extensive muscle necrosis. Keeping the leg at all was a miracle. A normal recovery would take at least twelve to eighteen months, and you would very likely walk with a limp for the rest of your life."

He flipped through the MRI report, speaking with equal parts confusion and excitement. "But now... your bones are healing at three times the normal rate, and there's almost no scar tissue in the regenerating soft tissue. If I hadn't performed the surgery myself, I'd suspect a misdiagnosis."

Li Jie merely shrugged one shoulder, keeping from disturbing the wound on his left side. "Maybe my constitution is a little unusual."
