Three box trucks sat bumper to bumper along the curb outside the express moving company. A group of armed men hurried out of the stairwell with goods and loaded them aboard, brazenly ignoring their surroundings. Before Li Jie could speak, someone spotted the police vehicle. Several gunmen loading the trucks swung their weapons around without hesitation. Bullets poured down like a rainstorm, showering sparks from the Patrol Van's armor plates.
"Prepare to engage! Hold on!"
He shouted into the radio, switched on the siren, and wrenched the steering wheel. The Patrol Van swept through a wide arc at the intersection. Then he shifted into reverse and floored the accelerator. The engine let out a piercing roar as the vehicle slammed backward like a moving wall of steel.
"Fuck you, you son of a bitch! I'm still a patient!"
Wilson cursed and grabbed the handhold. Bullets swarmed against the rear doors but had no effect. Finally, with a crash, a violent jolt, and the scream of a gunman standing between the vehicles, the Patrol Van's rear end slammed squarely into the last box truck. Amid billowing smoke, it shoved the truck toward the wall.
