Li Jie hurriedly tore off the car seat cover and tossed it aside, then took his badge out of his pocket to show them. Only then did the assembled bigwigs offer him faint, insincere smiles tinged with contempt.

Li Jie turned around. Sure enough, Batman had already vanished. "Fine, just thank me."
Even in the rain, they straightened their clothes and stood tall, brimming with arrogance. One man raised his chin and looked down his nose at Li Jie. "Officer, I need you to find transportation and escort us to the Gotham Police Department... the Eastern District Precinct, for temporary shelter."

Li Jie sneered. Before he could answer, a minibus screeched to a halt beside them. The mercenary who had left earlier jumped out of the driver's seat, shielding his head from the rain with one hand as he shouted, "Quick, get them..."
His voice cut off. He and Li Jie stared at each other for several seconds, then he reached for his gun. His fingers had barely touched his AK when the M1911 pressed against his forehead spat a burst of flame.
Amid the dignitaries' screams, a cloud of blood mixed with pink and gray-white matter sprayed from a hole larger than a palm in the back of the mercenary's head, splattering the ground. A moment later, the bucketing... bucket... pouring... heavy rain washed it all away.
