A little after five in the afternoon, Li Jie stood at his office door holding his Thermos, just in time to see the Internal Affairs team pass by carrying boxes of all sizes.

"Finished investigating?"

"Yes," Crispus Alan replied with a smile and a nod. "Our work is done for now. We're taking the reports and data to the Chief."

"Oh?" Li Jie pursed his lips. "So... did you find any problems?"

Before the Black officer could answer, Montoya cut in. "Yes. You have quite a few violations. The Chief will decide how to handle the findings."

"All right." Li Jie shrugged and drawled, "Then we'll wait and see."

Crispus gave him an apologetic smile and a slight nod. Only after the entire Internal Affairs team had reached the foot of the steps outside did he turn to his partner with a mildly reproachful question.

"Renee, you know regulations forbid us from disclosing our findings ahead of time, let alone spreading false information!"

"No, Chris. What I said wasn't false. There really are plenty of problems with their data, and aren't we taking the reports to the Chief?"

Montoya stepped aside to let a hurrying officer pass and sneered. "Feeding me nonsense about finding a sniper rifle lying around. Let him sweat over it."

Li Jie leaned against the doorframe, watching the Internal Affairs team leave the precinct as his expression slowly darkened.

Let the Chief decide? You make it sound like you're the only ones with a chief.

He was about to head upstairs to discuss it with Bob when he suddenly saw Otis rush in from outside.
