Many people had seen the wounded man being influenced by a low-level genjutsu, and had also seen that Shisui had not used his Sharingan.
But the truth did not instantly put people's minds at ease.
Facts needed to be recorded.
More importantly, they needed to be explained clearly.
Uchiha Gen stood outside the medical tent and did not rush the Konoha Military Police Force to disperse the crowd.
Instead, he had Che bring over a wooden table and lay out the incident report, the Sealing Squad's preliminary findings, and the Medical Ninja's emergency treatment confirmation.
"Read them aloud for everyone."
Che froze for a moment.
"Now?"
"Now."
Gen looked at the uneasy faces around him.
"Since they wanted to make this place the starting point of a rumor, we'll make it the starting point of a record."
Those words were not just meant for Che.
They were also meant for Shisui.
And for every villager around them.
Many conflicts in Konoha had never erupted on the spot.
They first became a stray remark without context, then speculation beside a tea stall, and finally a "fact" everyone accepted.
The Uchiha had suffered far too often from this.
It had happened with the Night of the Nine-Tails.
It had happened with conflicts involving the Konoha Military Police Force.
Now it was Shisui's eyes' turn.
Che took a deep breath and picked up the first report.
"In front of the temporary medical tent in the Resettlement Zone, the wounded Naoto Yamada exhibited a tendency toward self-harm. Shisui Uchiha arrived at the scene. After arriving, Shisui Uchiha neither activated his Sharingan nor cast genjutsu on the wounded man."
Murmurs rose from the crowd.
