Background / History
Tiantuo once reached the pinnacle of the Purple Mansion realm and attempted to attain Golden Core. Much of his memory is missing, although he retains old resources and extensive knowledge of cultivation traditions 36 41 48.
At an unspecified earlier time, he entered Mistcloud Heaven and became acquainted with the Vast Marsh Dark-Cloud Dragon King, who, according to Tiantuo, owes him a favor. His immense karmic entanglements nevertheless make him an unwelcome guest: he says that no clan would shelter him 44.
Tiantuo was imprisoned on the eighth floor of the Demon Refining Tower beneath Heavenwater Lake. When the ninth floor exploded, he escaped while the tower’s guardians—including a True Lord—focused on recovering a more powerful prisoner 48.
During his escape, the aging head of the Wei Household tried to capture him for pill refinement. Tiantuo killed him with a single surge of qi, but failed to obtain his blood essence: the dead cultivator’s blood qi became an earth spirit creature and fled underground. Tiantuo later identifies the horned child sought by Xu Xuan as a likely descendant of this household 48.
Appearance
- Build: Tall, with an appearance that can resemble a lofty immortal rather than an overtly monstrous being 36 37.
- Clothing: Initially wears splendid, ancient-style robes; later changes into cloud-green Daoist robes 36 37.
- Confinement: Streams of pure qi form a cage around him, preventing physical contact with Xu Xuan 36.
- Surroundings: Reshapes his stone perch into a furnished courtyard with ornamental rocks, plants, tables, and chairs inside Xu Xuan’s Qi Sea 37.
Personality
Tiantuo alternates between sinister intimidation and crude, boastful humor. He initially demands that Xu Xuan capture cultivators to replenish his blood essence, then uses the possibility of restoring Turmoil of Emotion to frighten him into cooperation. His lofty appearance contrasts with his head-scratching, loud laughter, and conspicuous hunger 36 37.
He takes pride in his demonic lineage, dismissing even a noble Fire Crow as inferior to himself. He also challenges Xu Xuan’s assumption that all beings called “demons” belong to one morally uniform category 36 38.
Despite his bravado, Tiantuo becomes cautious around greater powers. He hides when Jingyan produces the ancient painting, admits that its sword strike exceeded even his former peak strength, and grows subdued near Heavenwater Lake. Xu Xuan suspects that his repeated claims of missing memories may conceal information, but their truth remains unresolved 39 41 48.
Abilities & Skills
Blood Essence and Divine Ability Manipulation
Tiantuo can identify and manipulate the blood taint left by the Spirit-Gathering Blood Pill in Xu Xuan’s body 36.
- Recognizes that the pill was refined by a Purple Mansion cultivator and carried Turmoil of Emotion 36.
- Consumes the tainted blood essence and diverts the Divine Ability’s golden thread into a heart formed from flower petals, restoring Xu Xuan’s mental clarity 36.
- Can threaten to release the diverted influence back toward Xu Xuan’s heart 36.
- Requires substantial blood essence to recover; his agreement with Xu Xuan forbids obtaining it through indiscriminate slaughter 36 37.
Cultivation Knowledge and Instruction
His former realm gives him insight into ancient traditions, incompatible cultivation paths, and lost inheritances 36 37 48.
- Identifies Origin Poison as the poisonous-insect path’s original fruition and explains its transformation into Calamity Poison through the shamanic art Calamity Blessing 37.
- Explains the ancient pact linking Xu Xuan’s sword lineage, the Great Moonlight Temple, and the shamanic inheritance; advises that developing sword intent could turn Heavenly Poison Mountain from a threat into a protector 42.
- Distinguishes vanished Soil Thunder, associated with judgment and tribulation, from Xu Xuan’s Shock Thunder path 48.
- Recognizes Empty-Handed’s Hearing the Nether cultivation, while admitting that he cannot see through the karma surrounding him 49.
| Technique | Tiantuo’s involvement | Applications / Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Jade Blood Heavenly Heart Art | Gives Xu Xuan this fifth-grade ancient secret art 37. | Condenses a second heart in the Qi Sea, strengthening perception, magical power, and bodily recovery. Tiantuo identifies it as an orthodox art predating the corruption of Blood Qi 37. |
| Six Paths of Rebirth | Supplies the art for creating a controllable external body 39. | Combined with Dark Flood Dragon Fortune and a genuine reverse scale, enables Xu Xuan’s flood-dragon incarnation 42. |
| Blood Sea Treatise | Offers it to Xu Xuan, who refuses 36. | Promises rebirth from a drop of blood, but entails daily blood drinking and potentially uncontrollable murderous impulses 36. |
| White Bone Profound Studies | Offers it to Xu Xuan, who refuses 36. | Allows communion with the netherworld and command of spirits, but may leave the practitioner as a skeleton 36. |
| Heavenly Monster’s Nine Transformations | Describes it as his exclusive cultivation method, though he has forgotten its tradition 36. | Could use Xu Xuan’s Dark Flood Dragon Fortune to transform him completely into a flood dragon; Xu rejects abandoning his human identity and established path 36. |
Demonic Identity and Incarnation Support
Tiantuo uses Xu Xuan’s Dark Flood Dragon Fortune to fabricate the identity of Mu Youdu of Great Mist Marsh 37 38.
- Enables Xu Xuan’s spiritual consciousness to enter Deep Abyss, where the disguise attracts deference as a supposedly high-ranking demon descendant 37.
- Makes a reverse scale emit convincing mysterious yin light during Xu Xuan’s first meeting with Yang Yuanxin 38.
- Supplies a genuine Mysterious Yin Reverse Scale for an incarnation with a pure Great Mist Marsh bloodline 42.
- Provides a fabricated family history supported by real information about the Dragon King’s household 43.
- States that Mu Youdu is recorded in the Dragon Court’s jade register and that the Dragon King knows the name’s origin 44.
Perception and Tactical Support
- Surveys Xu Xuan’s surroundings for observers during travel and while Xu Xuan transfers consciousness between bodies 43 50.
- Senses something beneath the Ai Household estate before its trap is revealed 48.
- Identifies the shamanic tracking influence placed on Xu Xuan and explains how the ancient stele conceals Xu Xuan’s actual actions 42.
- Identifies the Perching-Flame True Feather as containing a spark of the Purple Mansion flame Crimson Origin Dissolution Fire 47.
Defensive Intervention and Limits
- Attempts to defend Xu Xuan from the sword impression left by Jingyan’s painting using bloody blossoms and black specks gathered into a celestial-river-like surge 41.
- The defense disintegrates on contact, causing Tiantuo to vomit blood; he acknowledges that even his former peak strength could not withstand the original strike 41.
- Must be sealed with clear qi before Xu Xuan enters the Law-Observing Hall, lest his Purple Mansion remnant soul provoke its detection mechanisms 45.
- Depends on Xu Xuan and the ancient stele to conceal his whereabouts and karmic burden 36 44.
Equipment / Items
- Mysterious Yin Reverse Scale — A genuine dragon-lineage object supplied to Xu Xuan as the basis of his flood-dragon incarnation 42.
- Dragon Court secret scroll — Provides information on Great Mist Marsh customs and fighting and cultivating in a flood-dragon body, helping Xu Xuan withstand scrutiny 42.
- Retained resources — Claims that resources from his former life remain available despite his missing memories; offers them as part of his promise to assist Xu Xuan 36.
Relationships
- Xu Xuan — Host and wary partner. Their binding oath exchanges blood essence and a future Seal Script for Tiantuo’s instruction and assistance in reaching Purple Mansion 36 37.
- Vast Marsh Dark-Cloud Dragon King — Earlier acquaintance whom Tiantuo claims owes him a favor; the connection supports Xu Xuan’s borrowed identity, but does not guarantee further aid 44.
- Cinnabar Thunder — Xu Xuan’s sentient sword, whose thunder-sparrow form readily fetches tea utensils for Tiantuo. Its unusually attentive behavior makes Xu Xuan suspicious 37.
- Wei Household’s former head — Tried to capture Tiantuo for pill refinement and was killed during Tiantuo’s escape 48.
- Jingyan — Recognized by Tiantuo as a Great Moonlight Temple successor. The painting Jingyan brings exposes Tiantuo’s inability to resist an ancient sword impression 41.
