Lin Yan glanced at the badge Ponzu held out.

He shook his head gently without reaching for it.
"I didn't save you for your badges."
Ponzu froze, unsure what to do with her outstretched hand. "But... I don't know how to thank you."
"Then stay alive and pass this exam." Lin Yan's voice was calm. "Your target was my companion, and my companion ended up in danger because of you. Both sides bear some responsibility. Now that everyone is safe, let's call it even."
His words were meant as much for Gon and Kurapika beside him as they were for Ponzu.
He didn't want his companions thinking everything he did was a transaction.
A cultivator sought peace of mind. If he quibbled over every little thing even with those closest to him, how could he cultivate the Dao?
Just then, Leorio groaned and slowly came around.
"I... where am I...?" He shook his groggy head, opening his eyes to find Gon and Kurapika watching him with concern.
"Leorio! You're awake!" Gon cried delightedly.
Leorio struggled upright. Remembering what had happened before he lost consciousness, his expression changed. "Snakes! There were so many snakes! Where's Ponzu?"
"I'm here," Ponzu answered softly.
Seeing Ponzu safe and sound, Leorio breathed a sigh of relief, his tense shoulders slumping. Then, as though remembering something, he abruptly reached into his pocket.
A second later, his face drained of all color.
"Oh no! My badge... it's gone!"
He frantically searched himself, his fingers trembling. Finally, he clutched his head in despair. "It's over... never mind getting your number 246, now I've lost my own number 403 in that snake pit! It's all my fault. I was too careless!"
Kurapika patted his shoulder. "Don't worry. What matters is that you're safe. We'll figure something out
