Meihui, Naruto, and Jiraiya were ambushed by the overwhelmingly powerful Ōtsutsuki Zero, who trapped Meihui after easily crushing his attack. With Naruto and Jiraiya fleeing and his own strength outmatched, Meihui asked Kurama to release the seal and lend him all its chakra for one final assault.

• Meihui's Nine-Tails warned him of a powerful presence, so he and Jiraiya fled with Naruto, but Ōtsutsuki Zero caught up to them.
• Ōtsutsuki Zero attacked, and Meihui used Flying Thunder God to evade the slash before discovering that space-time ninjutsu was restricted.
• Meihui told Naruto and Jiraiya to escape, then charged Ōtsutsuki Zero with ice pillars, a Spiral Shuriken, a Nine-Tails Chakra Cloak, and Adamantine Sealing Chains.
• Ōtsutsuki Zero stopped Meihui with a wave and shattered his defenses, but Meihui healed himself with a Senzu Bean while Jiraiya and Naruto escaped.

• Naruto ignored Sakura after defeating Kakashi, then went home and visited Ichiraku for ramen.
• As Naruto ate, memories of Meihui overwhelmed him, and he cried before heading to a clearing behind the village.

• Yugito transformed and attacked them with a Tailed Beast Bomb, but neither man was defeated.
• Hidan used Yugito's blood to activate his curse technique, and Kakuzu pierced Hidan's heart to transfer the wound to Yugito.

Meihui joined Kakashi’s team on the way to the Fire Temple and encountered Itachi and Kisame. He freed himself from Itachi’s Tsukuyomi, secretly gave Itachi a Senzu Bean, and watched the Akatsuki pair retreat as Kakashi’s team continued onward.

• Tsunade sent Meihui to the Fire Temple with Naruto while Asuma’s squad went ahead to investigate the Akatsuki attack.
• Kakashi’s Team 7 encountered Itachi and Kisame, and the two sides began fighting.

• Pain ordered the Akatsuki to capture the remaining Tailed Beasts after learning the Three-Tails had been killed.

Sasuke killed Orochimaru, then gathered Suigetsu, Karin Uzumaki, and Jūgo to form a team for his revenge. Kabuto Yakushi found Orochimaru dead and vowed to carry on his work.

• Sasuke attacked Orochimaru, defeated him in his White Phosphorus Snake form, and devoured him with the Cursed Seal of Heaven.
• Kabuto Yakushi checked Orochimaru’s body and promised to finish what Orochimaru had left undone.
• Sasuke freed Suigetsu and said they would seek revenge, then Karin Uzumaki joined them after learning Orochimaru was dead.
• Karin punched Suigetsu when he mocked her affection for Sasuke, then claimed Suigetsu wanted her to come along.
• Sasuke used his Sharingan to calm Jūgo during an episode, and Jūgo agreed to join Sasuke’s team.
