The three of them successfully snatched the bells and became Genin.
Meanwhile, Kakashi was reporting what had happened to Hiruzen Sarutobi.
"That was more or less how it went. Meihui has at least Chunin-level strength. I could tell from his Shadow Clones. Naruto and Sasuke are a little weaker, though-basically ordinary Genin."
Hiruzen Sarutobi sat behind his desk, listening to Kakashi's report.
"Not bad. Kakashi, go get some rest."
After becoming Genin, Naruto, Sasuke, and Meihui were bored out of their minds. Over the next week, they really did just about everything.
They babysat, pulled weeds, cleaned, searched for lost items, and, most absurdly of all, even did other people's homework.
Anyone who knew them knew they were ninja. Anyone who didn't would have thought they were babysitters.
It was the same old routine, with the same old flavor.
A voice came over the radio.
"Target located. Shall we move?"
"Move? What move?" Meihui acted clueless and immediately started exchanging code phrases.
"Come on, hey~"
"I love you, walking alone down a dark alley."
Listening to Meihui's nonsense, Naruto and Sasuke decided they didn't know him and didn't want to know this nutcase.
When the target appeared, Naruto and Sasuke immediately grabbed the tabby cat.
They had lost count of how many times they had caught this cat.
Inside the Hokage's office, a middle-aged woman held the tabby in her arms.
"My son, my darling son! Why did you run off again? You had Mommy so worried!"
Good grief. The sight made Meihui's stomach churn.
That's the daimyo's wife, right? Seriously, she's as wide as a barrel but not even as tall. Take away her backside and she's all waist.
If I were that cat, I'd run away every day too.
Hiruzen Sarutobi looked at the three youngsters under Kakashi's command, and a smile spread across his aged face. Before he could speak, Naruto cut him off.
"Hey, Third Old Man, when are you going to give us some proper missions? We're sick of catching cats every day!"
"Hey, hey, Naruto, you can't talk to Lord Hokage like that." Kakashi stepped in to smooth things over.
"Hahaha, it's all right, Kakashi. Since you want a more difficult mission, I happen to have one. I'll send you to protect someone."
"Protect someone? Who? A princess or a daimyo?"
Just then, a drunken old man walked in.
"I'm the person you'll be protecting on this mission. I'm the Land of Waves Architect, and I'm your client," Tazuna said, drinking as he spoke.
"Huh? Why are they all a bunch of brats? Is this mission going to be all right?"
"Don't worry. With a Jonin like me here, there won't be any problems," Kakashi said, stepping forward.
"All right, then. I hope these brats won't hold you back."
Hearing the old man keep calling him a brat irritated Naruto, and he tried to rush over to teach him a lesson.
Meihui stood beside Naruto, pulling him back with all his might.
Then Tazuna said something else.
"Why is this blond brat so ugly?"
Hearing someone call him ugly made Naruto even angrier. He insisted on charging over to give the man a couple of hard slaps, leaving Meihui with no choice but to hold him tight.
"Little bro, don't lose your head!"
"Onii-chan, but he just said the blond one was ugly!"
At Naruto's words, Meihui lost his composure. Blond? I'm blond too! And we're twins-we look practically identical!
It finally dawned on Meihui.
"Damn it! You bastard, how dare you call me ugly! Out of my way! Little bro, don't hold me back!"
"Big bro, don't lose your head! Be reasonable!"
"Reasonable? How am I supposed to be reasonable? Let go! I'll slap him to death!"
At that point, Hiruzen Sarutobi couldn't stand watching any longer.
"That's enough. Stop fooling around and get ready to leave."
They had no choice but to stop. But how could Meihui possibly let it go?
He quietly whispered a few words to Naruto.
After hearing him out, Naruto grinned and nodded.
"Ahem. I have an announcement to make."
When Meihui suddenly spoke up, Kakashi had a bad feeling.
"Hey, Meihui, what are you planning?"
Then Naruto shouted, "Sexy Jutsu!"
A blonde, blue-eyed girl with twin ponytails appeared before everyone, baring everything.
It was a full-on bombshell. How could a roomful of old perverts possibly withstand it?
Blood immediately gushed from Hiruzen Sarutobi's nose. Kakashi had been single his entire life-when had he ever seen anything like this?
Sasuke was even worse. He blushed and turned his head away, only to sneak another look every so often.
As for Tazuna, he had already lost what looked like three liters of blood from his nose and was halfway to the grave.
"Hahaha, what a bunch of pushovers! That's all you've got?" Meihui discreetly wiped the blood from his own nose.
After that little farce, the five of them arrived at the village gates, ready to set off for the Land of Waves.
