"I was about to ask you the same thing, Elder Danzo. What did you send people to my house for?" Meihui put particular emphasis on the word "Elder."
Meihui laid the sarcasm on thick. There was no way Danzo could miss what he meant, but how could he possibly admit the truth?
"Oh? What happened, Meihui Uzumaki?"
"So Elder Danzo knows nothing about it? Let me fill you in, then. Your Root people showed up in my house for no reason. What do you have to say about that?"
Meihui and Danzo were two cunning foxes, each harboring his own schemes. Both knew the truth, and neither would say it.
"They were from my Root? But I knew nothing about this. It seems we have a traitor in our ranks. Rest assured, Meihui Uzumaki, I will give you a satisfactory explanation."
Since Danzo had already made a concession, Meihui could hardly push the matter further.
"Now then, Meihui Uzumaki, you barged into my Root headquarters without cause and injured my subordinates. Shouldn't we settle that score?"
Danzo went on the offensive first, hoping to throw his rank around. A superior's authority could crush a man.
But while the idea sounded good, reality was cruel. Meihui wasn't buying any of it.
"Oh, Elder Danzo, I just took a wrong turn. So this is Root headquarters! I was wondering why the air was so bad and everything was so damp. Turns out it's Root."
Listening to Meihui's barbed remarks, Danzo glared at him with his one eye, anger rising.
"Hmm?"
"Ahem, I mean, Root is Konoha's deepest darkness, eliminating its enemies. It is Konoha's sword."
On and on he went. Hearing Meihui sing his praises, Danzo felt rather pleased.
After all, who wouldn't want others to acknowledge the things he had done?
