Mitsuki's words were as cutting as ever, getting under Kawaki's skin several times. In the end, Kawaki simply ignored him and left on his own. Otherwise, Mitsuki would drive him mad.
"Kawaki, where are you going? Kawaki, wait for me! Kawaki, how am I supposed to live without you? Kawaki!"

With one leaving and the other chasing after him, they unwittingly reached the outskirts of the Valley of the End.
The two continued walking in silence.

"Yeah. Enough, stop seeing me off. Just go already. You're annoying as hell."
And so Kawaki left. Though he had no idea where to go, he just wanted to see what was out there.
He had no idea how long he had walked, or where he had ended up.
Perhaps fate had arranged it, but as Kawaki wandered along, he ran into Code, who was just as down and out.
Somewhat unbelievably, neither of them showed any intention of fighting when they met.

"Hey, aren't you afraid I'll capture you and drag you back?"
Code was a little surprised that Kawaki was treating him with such familiarity.
Kawaki gave a miserable smile, but still told Code about his current situation.

That single sentence laid bare all his bitterness and helplessness.
