"Vegeta, let's attack the barrier first," Goku said, forming an Energy Blast in his hand and sending it past Janemba toward the barrier.
"Brat, I don't need you to tell me!" Vegeta snapped, hurling several Energy Blasts at it as well.
But they were soon dumbfounded.
When their Energy Blasts struck the barrier, it absorbed them instead. They hadn't inflicted even the slightest damage.
Not only that, their Energy Blasts actually strengthened the barrier's defenses.
Goku and Vegeta refused to believe it, frantically hurling Energy Blast after Energy Blast at it.
But without exception, every blast vanished like a stone dropped into the ocean, absorbed by the transparent barrier.
"H-how is this possible?" Both of them were stunned.
And just then, Janemba, who had been left standing off to the side, grew angry too.
I'm such a big, adorable baby! Can't you see me?
Janemba's enormous fist appeared out of thin air beside Vegeta and Goku.
A single punch sent both of them flying.

It was as though Janemba had torn open a passage through space. He stood still and threw a punch, and his fist emerged right beside Goku.
Caught by the sudden, heavy blow, Goku and Vegeta flew dozens of meters before crashing to the ground, each coughing up a mouthful of blood.
Both rolled across the ground and leaped into the air.
But just then, the colorful rocks on the ground suddenly erupted, hurtling toward them.

Goku quickly grabbed Vegeta and used Instant Transmission, appearing behind Janemba in a flash and dodging the colorful rocks.
After putting some distance between themselves and Janemba again,
Goku said gravely, "Vegeta, I'll leave breaking the barrier to you. I'll keep him busy."
As he spoke, Goku let out a long "Aaaaaah!" Golden flames surged from his body, his powerful ki shot skyward, and lightning crackled around him as he transformed into Super Saiyan 2.
"W-what transformation is that?" Vegeta's eyes widened in shock at Goku's transformation.
The sight of Goku at the instant he transformed was etched deep into his mind.
But Goku had already charged at Janemba and didn't answer his question.
Vegeta clenched his fists until his knuckles turned white, his teeth grinding. Resentful yet helpless, he glanced at Goku charging toward Janemba, then turned and punched the barrier over and over.
At that moment, Vegeta felt frustrated, stifled, and utterly furious.
All these years, he had been unable to train and grow stronger because he had no physical body, only his soul.
After receiving a body, he was still only as strong as he had been when he died.

A pitch-black fissure suddenly appeared in front of Janemba, swallowing Goku's Kamehameha.
The Kamehameha vanished into thin air just like that.

"W-what kind of technique is that?" Goku exclaimed, his face filled with disbelief.
After several exchanges, he still couldn't make sense of his opponent's tactics and hadn't inflicted any damage.

Goku rose into the air and hovered there, shouting toward King Yemma's palace, "King Yemma, what kind of monster is this guy?"
King Yemma's voice rang out.
"Goku, his name is Janemba. A great deal of evil energy has accumulated in Other World over the years, and we haven't had time to purify it all.
"Today, a little red ogre had an accident while working. He accidentally broke a jar containing evil energy, and then many other jars storing evil energy exploded as well."
"All that evil energy used the little red ogre as its host, attaching itself to him and turning him into the enormous Janemba you see before you.
"In other words, Janemba is the embodiment of all the evil energy that has accumulated in Other World over the years."
"I see. Does he have any weaknesses?" Goku pressed.
King Yemma said, "I don't know. This is the first time anything like this has happened in the realm of the dead."
Goku was speechless: ...
Although he still had a trump card, it was hard to fight this guy when he couldn't figure out his tactics at all.
Vegeta was still pounding away at the transparent barrier, but it wasn't doing any good.

Goku paused, then turned around, stuck out his rear, and slapped it several times.
"Come and get me, dummy! Bleh, bleh, bleh!"
"Janemba, Janemba! Waaah! Janemba!"
Vegeta was utterly dumbfounded.
"Come and get me, dummy!" Goku suddenly shouted. His aura flared, and he shot away.
Janemba froze for a moment, then gave frantic chase, shouting, "Janemba, Janemba!"
Vegeta: !!!
He was beyond stunned!
What kind of fighting was this?
Kakarot, that idiot.
That stupid-looking Janemba was an idiot too.
But remembering that Goku was risking his life to keep Janemba occupied, Vegeta quickly pulled himself together and resumed attacking the transparent barrier.
Meanwhile.
Some of the resurrected souls discovered that the passage from Other World to the living world had opened.
Countless souls who had regained their freedom squeezed into the passage, trying to return to the living world.
In no time, the passage was completely packed with a dense mass of souls.
"This is bad! Vegeta, hurry!" King Yemma urged.
"Shut your mouth!" Vegeta roared.
Bastard! You threw me into hell, and now you have the nerve to rush me?
He simply stopped pounding on the barrier.
"W-what's wrong? Why did you stop?" King Yemma's anxious voice rang out again.
"Obviously, I can't break it!" Vegeta snapped, flying a circuit around the barrier without finding any solution.
"This..." King Yemma was on the verge of losing his mind.
He had worked overtime for so many years, yet in the end, he still hadn't managed to protect Other World.
Now that King Yemma's Palace was sealed inside the barrier, he had lost control over Other World.
With the dead resurrected and the passage to the living world wide open, countless souls who should have remained dead were returning to the living realm. Didn't that make him responsible for a terrible sin?
All those years of hard work had gone down the drain.
King Yemma was now like an ant on a hot pan, pacing back and forth inside King Yemma's Palace.

Android 18 sat astride King Cold's shoulders, pulling on the horns atop his head.
