Power Progression
The progression below follows the Vegeta associated with Gohan’s restored timeline. Separate parallel-world and Time Patrol counterparts are covered under Timeline Counterparts.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Restored physical body; evil-energy boost | 48 | Regains a body during the Other World crisis. Without a body, he had been unable to train; his restored strength initially remains near his level at death, supplemented by a sudden evil-energy boost. |
| Advanced Super Saiyan | 73 | Two or three years of intense training raise him far beyond his initial Super Saiyan level. Gohan compares his strength to his own and Trunks’s first emergence from the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. |
| Majin-enhanced Super Saiyan 2 | 74 | Babidi’s magic triggers a major power increase and Super Saiyan 2 transformation, accompanied by severe pain and unusually violent ki. Vegeta resists Babidi’s commands. |
| Super Saiyan 2 without Majin enhancement | 75 | Retains the transformation after Cooler kills Babidi and removes the spell. His power decreases, but his combat experience lets him gain the advantage over Dabura. |
| Super Saiyan God | 91 | Acquires the form through the ritual two months after Beerus and Whis leave Earth. Goku remains substantially stronger in the same form. |
| Super Saiyan Blue | 98 | Achieves Blue alongside Goku after another month of training on Beerus’s planet. Their earlier theory of combining Super Saiyan with god ki had been confirmed by Gohan’s demonstration. |
| Super Saiyan Blue Evolved / Deep Blue | 140 151 | Attained during the Tournament of Power. He fights God of Destruction-form Toppo evenly for a time, but later discovers that the form is still insufficient against Broly. |
| Ultra Ego | 195 196 | First documented use follows his destruction-energy studies under Beerus. He employs it against Jass while seeking revenge for Trunks; later uses it against Broly in the World Martial Arts Tournament. |
Background / History
Saiyan Prince and the Android Disaster
Vegeta survives Planet Vegeta’s destruction because he is away on a mission. He formerly serves under Frieza and commands Nappa, whom he eventually kills for disobeying his orders 32 52 313.
In Gohan’s devastated future, Vegeta falls while fighting the Androids, leaving Bulma and the young Trunks behind. By the opening chapters, he is dead, and his damaged gravity-training spaceship remains among Capsule Corporation’s ruins. Gohan and Trunks recover it as a resource for their own training 2 3 337.
Other World Crisis and Renewed Training
Vegeta spends his afterlife without a physical body and cannot improve through training. When the Other World disturbance restores his body, he is furious to discover how far Goku has progressed. Goku’s Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3 transformations challenge Vegeta’s understanding of Saiyan power 48 49.
After Janemba’s defeat, King Yemma preserves Vegeta’s body in recognition of his efforts against the monster. Vegeta subsequently trains intensely in Hell. When Gohan brings Trunks to visit, he initially remains aloof, but acknowledges his son’s achievements just before they leave 54 62.
Dabura and the Majin Transformation
Vegeta wins a rock-paper-scissors contest against Goku for the right to fight Dabura. Despite his improved Super Saiyan strength, Dabura outmatches him. Vegeta breaks the demon’s sword and launches a Final Flash powerful enough to threaten Earth, but the attack leaves him exhausted 73.
Trunks saves him from Dabura’s finishing attack and supplies a Senzu Bean. Babidi then turns Vegeta into a Majin, awakening Super Saiyan 2. Vegeta refuses to obey the order to kill the Supreme Kai and resumes attacking Dabura instead. After Babidi’s death removes the enhancement, Vegeta retains Super Saiyan 2 and eventually defeats Dabura 74 75 76.
During the subsequent Cooler confrontation, Vegeta joins the other fighters in supporting Gohan’s beam struggle to protect Earth 82.
Divine Training and Planet Vampa
Following his revival, Vegeta resumes family life while pursuing the god-ki path. He acquires Super Saiyan God through the ritual and later learns Super Saiyan Blue under Whis’s training regimen 91 96 98 108.
On Planet Vampa, Vegeta intervenes when Broly brutally overwhelms Trunks. His Blue form fares little better: Broly defeats his Galick Gun and gravely injures him. Even fighting alongside Blue Goku, Vegeta cannot sustain the battle, and Gohan must rescue and heal them 113 114.
Destruction Energy and the Jass Battle
Vegeta represents Universe 7 in the Tournament of Power and attains his deep-blue transformation during the event. Afterward, daily sparring with Broly exposes its limits. Rather than imitate Goku’s Ultra Instinct, Vegeta accepts that he needs a discipline suited to his own temperament and begins studying destruction energy with Beerus 134 140 151.
When Jass kills Trunks, Vegeta attacks in Ultra Ego and initially refuses Goku’s assistance. He is ultimately overwhelmed and asks Goku to avenge both him and Trunks. The two later fuse into Gogeta, whose strength decisively surpasses Jass’s 195 196 202 205 207 208.
World Martial Arts Tournament and His Own Path
Vegeta faces Frieza in the Adult Division and treats the match as a chance to settle old grievances. Super Saiyan Blue overwhelms Golden Frieza, and Vegeta ends the fight by throwing him into the arena’s protective barrier 313.
His later match against Broly ends in defeat despite Blue Evolved and Ultra Ego. Broly knocks him out of the arena before he can reach the final six 322.
The Grand Minister subsequently offers Vegeta a position as a God of Destruction. Vegeta refuses: he wants strength earned through his own fighting and training, rather than a title tied to duties and rules. The decision restores his confidence in his own path, though surpassing Goku remains his goal 324 325.
He later watches Trunks unveil Super Saiyan 5 with both concern and pride. Remembering his own death and Trunks’s struggle through the Android apocalypse, he recognizes how completely his son has grown beyond the child he once left behind 336 337.
Appearance
Vegeta has black, spiky hair and strongly resembles his father, King Vegeta 73 113 410.
- Super Saiyan: His hair turns brilliant gold, accompanied by a blazing golden aura 73.
- Blue Evolved: His blue aura deepens and becomes more violent as his muscles tighten 322.
- Ultra Ego: Dense, deep-purple flames surround him during his battle with Jass 196.
- White gloves: He removes one after Dabura’s saliva begins turning it to stone 74.
Personality
Vegeta’s defining traits are pride, fierce competitiveness, and an unwillingness to yield. He insists on continuing against Dabura despite exhaustion and refuses outside help during his confrontation with Jass. At his most reckless, his determination overrides concern for others: he ignores warnings that his Final Flash could destroy Earth 3 73 74 195.
His independence also makes him resistant to manipulation. Even under Babidi’s painful magic, he refuses to obey. Much later, he rejects the Grand Minister’s offer because divine office would not satisfy his desire for personally earned strength 74 324.
His cold manner conceals strong family attachments. He intervenes to protect Trunks from Broly, worries over his son’s tournament injuries, and is visibly affected by Bulma and Bulla’s farewell before the Tournament of Power. His protectiveness becomes possessive when he suspects Bulla is interested in Sun Wu 113 134 336 410.
Although rivalry with Goku often produces resentment, Vegeta can cooperate with him effectively and share ordinary companionship. Their teamwork against Whis is unexpectedly smooth, and they later bicker over buffet dishes with the familiarity of longtime rivals 96 325.
Abilities & Skills
Martial Arts and Combat Experience
Vegeta combines direct aggression with techniques honed through countless battles 73 75.
- Catches Dabura’s sword between his hands and snaps it 73.
- Gradually gains the advantage over Dabura after losing Babidi’s enhancement 75.
- Recognizes Dabura’s petrifying saliva and discards his affected glove before it can endanger him 74.
- In Ultra Ego, uses precise attacks to briefly remain competitive with the much stronger Broly 322.
Ki Attacks
Vegeta uses concentrated beams and rapid energy bombardments.
- Final Flash: Burns and drives back Dabura, but consumes nearly all of Vegeta’s available strength 73 74.
- Blue Evolved Final Flash: A stronger deep-blue version; fails to injure Broly during their tournament match 322.
- Galick Gun: Used against Broly’s incoming ki blast on Vampa; loses the clash 113.
- Prince’s Battle Style: A rapid barrage of energy spheres. Ineffective against substantially stronger opponents such as Dabura and Broly 73 113.
- Combined fire: Contributes energy alongside the other defenders against Cooler’s Triple Supernova 82.
Artificial Full Moon
Vegeta knows the Saiyan technique for creating an Artificial Full Moon from his own energy and oxygen 32.
- Produces the same transformation-enabling effect as a natural full moon.
- Consumes some of the user’s ki.
- Becomes a technique Gohan intends to learn from him after Janemba’s defeat 54.
God Ki and Transformation Control
Vegeta develops Super Saiyan God, Blue, and Blue Evolved through ritual access and continued training 91 98 151.
- Blue’s stamina consumption becomes a serious limitation during the prolonged battle against Broly 114.
- A parallel-world Vegeta conserves stamina by remaining in Super Saiyan God and switching to Blue only at the instant of attack. This lets him reverse his disadvantage against Rosé Goku Black 265 266.
- Vegeta correctly warns that Goku and Beerus’s early exchanges do not reveal either fighter’s full strength 87.
Ultra Ego and Destruction Training
Vegeta pursues destruction energy after deciding Ultra Instinct does not suit him 151.
- Studies Beerus’s training rather than continuing to copy Goku’s approach.
- Uses Ultra Ego against Jass and describes the power of incoming attacks as becoming his own 195 196.
- The form does not make him invulnerable: Jass overwhelms him, and Broly later defeats him despite its use 202 322.
Fusion
Vegeta can combine with Goku to create a substantially stronger warrior.
- Gogeta: Their fusion overwhelms Jass after their individual efforts fail 205 206 207.
- Vegito: The Potara-fused warrior in the parallel-world Zamasu conflict uses Super Saiyan Blue, a ki sword, Final Kamehameha, and Destruction. His enormous power threatens the fusion’s duration, requiring Gohan to reinforce the earrings 271 275.
