"Calling it lava isn't quite right, because that volcano was artificially modified, and the lava isn't very hot-only about the boiling point of water.
"It merely has properties similar to lava. In essence, it's a special kind of water. As for why it's suitable for training, there are ancient ruins on the island.
"Various factions have visited, but none found anything valuable, so hardly anyone goes to that island anymore."

After hearing Ferdinand's account, Yechen became interested in the island and decided to visit.
Finding anything in the ruins would depend entirely on luck, but an artificial volcano was certainly a rare sight.

The Thousand-Night Snow stopped in the waters near Black Crystal Rock Island. They did not go ashore immediately, wanting to watch the artificial volcano erupt first so they could take precautions later.
