Departure from Konoha

Tsunade lost both her younger brother, Nawaki, and her boyfriend, Dan Katō. Her inability to save them left her with a severe psychological fear of blood. Hemophobia, exhaustion with war, and disillusionment with Konoha’s policies all contributed to her departure from the village 382.

She remained attached to Konoha despite her dissatisfaction. Yechen cites both her and Jiraiya as people whose concern for the village and its inhabitants brought them back when it was endangered 346.

Meeting Yechen

Yechen searches for Tsunade in a famous gambling town, where her gambling addiction makes her relatively easy to trace. During their subsequent restaurant visit, she orders expensive liquor and a large quantity of food despite having an empty wallet 378 379.

Tsunade tests Yechen through a three-move challenge. He stops her initial punch without moving, neutralizes her second attack after she releases the Yin Seal, and answers her summoning of Katsuyu with the Flying Heaven Battle Venerable. Recognizing that she cannot defeat the armored giant, Tsunade abandons her attack 380 381.

Afterward, she guides Yechen toward Shikkotsu Forest. Their conversation moves from teasing to her bereavement and hemophobia. When he offers to restore Nawaki and Dan, she initially condemns what she believes is conventional Impure World Reincarnation. She becomes calmer, though still skeptical, after he explains that his evolved technique requires no living sacrifices and preserves the restored person’s mind and free will 382.

After Hashirama returns from Yechen’s battle with Kaguya, Tsunade rushes to help him and asks where Yechen is. She remains worried despite her grandfather’s reassurance and asks for an account of the battle 402.

Behind her aggressive manner, Tsunade remains vulnerable to grief. Her uncertainty over reviving Nawaki and Dan reveals a fragile side that contrasts sharply with her usual swagger. She is also firmly opposed to sacrificing living people or turning the dead into controlled puppets 382 389.
