Inside the still-intact secret room beneath the Mizukage Building, Yagura sat in the seat of honor, sweeping his gaze over Genji, Ao, Mei Terumi, and Kakashi as he spoke calmly. His eyes betrayed little emotion. His gaze lingered on Mei Terumi and Genji, and only in his final sentence did an exceedingly faint note of pleading enter his voice.
Under his gaze, Mei Terumi's eyes flickered. She pressed her lips together and glanced lightly at Genji beside her, whose expression remained unchanged.
"The Fourth Mizukage sacrificed himself for the village. He fought until he was near death, then held on with his last breath and his resolve to protect the village, sealing the tailed beast once more."
After a moment of silence, a sharp gleam flashed through Genji's cloudy old eyes, and he slowly shook his head.
Yagura had just shown himself before so many people, so he could not have died on the battlefield. He could only have been at death's door, a spent bolt at the end of its flight, before dying either to seal the tailed beast again or from wounds too severe to heal.
"Mm." With a faint nod, Yagura pronounced his own fate.
