Why did they put wine in a teapot here?
Bo Yi set down his teacup, immediately losing any desire to drink. He walked to the doorway and poked his head out to look around, then beckoned over a servant whose hands happened to be empty and who did not seem to be working.
"Guest..." The servant came over promptly enough, but his face remained wooden throughout, without a trace of expression. He looked utterly cold, not welcoming in the slightest. "What do you need?"
Bo Yi turned and pointed at the teapot on the round table behind him. "Why is there wine in this? Is there no tea? If there's no tea, plain water will do..."
The servant glanced at the teapot and said expressionlessly, "There is no water."
He was much shorter than Bo Yi. When his pitch-black eyes looked at Bo Yi, he did not raise his head. Instead, he slowly rolled his eyes upward, exposing a large expanse of pale yellow, bloodshot whites beneath them. He answered without a trace of emotion, "Throughout the Kang Residence, there is only wine, no water..."
"What about washing up, then? Do you use wine for that too?"
"Yes, guest..." The servant nodded mechanically. "If you need water, you can buy it on the street outside."
The street outside? Bo Yi was a little surprised. This Instance was actually open rather than enclosed...
Since he had already started asking, he might as well get all his questions out of the way. "If I want to look around the residence, where am I allowed to go?"
"Other than the rear courtyard where the concubines live and the master's study, guests may go wherever they please."
"Concubines?" Bo Yi was taken aback.
Hadn't the steward said they were here to attend the wedding
