The whimpering seemed to act as a signal. As though answering some summons, the monsters that had lain silent in the darkness awakened from their slumber one after another and opened their eyes.
All the eyes on the human-armed spider's arms opened as wide as they could, swiveling with an eerie gleam. Its eight "legs" began clambering around inside the glass enclosure, its palms banging against the glass walls.
The scale-covered crawling monster let out a piercing roar. Its body writhed violently inside its enclosure as it slammed again and again into the glass facing Bo Yi. The deafening impacts were interspersed with the scalp-prickling scrape of scales rubbing together.
As the monsters awakened one after another, the beating of wings, howls, impacts, roars, and rumbling... all mingled together. The entire laboratory echoed with their bellows and wails, battering Bo Yi's eardrums.
Worse still, amid the violent impacts, Bo Yi suddenly heard a faint but deeply ominous crack, like... a thin sheet of ice splitting gently beneath the early spring sun.
Bo Yi jerked his head up. A tiny, almost imperceptible crack had appeared in the glass under the relentless pounding. But with another bang, it spread rapidly outward like a spiderweb, the single fine line branching into clearly visible fractures as countless tiny cracking sounds mingled together.
This is bad. Those things are going to get out!
Bo Yi tried draping the white cloth back over the enclosure, but the awakened monsters did not return to sleep once covered again. So... his only option was to find a way out. But he could no longer use the way he had come in. After all, no one knew... whether the monster formed from those lumps of flesh was still waiting for him outside.
He quickly scanned the laboratory, searching for
