Clang-
His sharp teeth slammed into the metal handle. Jiang Xiaofeng let out a howl of pain, released Bo Yi's arm, and clapped his hands over his mouth.
The Dissection Knife stuffed into Jiang Xiaofeng's mouth clattered to the floor and rolled a long way, trailing a line of water behind it.
Bo Yi calmly withdrew his hand. He flexed his wrist, then rolled up his sleeve to inspect the spot Jiang Xiaofeng had grabbed-a large bruise had already formed there.
The culprit clearly had no sense that he had done anything wrong. After clutching his mouth and wailing for a moment, he turned a venomous gaze on Bo Yi.
"You hurt me..."
Jiang Xiaofeng slowly approached Bo Yi, his black, twisted shadow lengthening inch by inch in the moonlight. "I was... going to be gentle..."
"But..." He tilted his head at Bo Yi. "Why won't you behave?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, he spread his arms and lunged at Bo Yi. His speed suddenly increased. In the blink of an eye, he appeared right in front of Bo Yi, his face contorted, sharp teeth gleaming coldly inside his wide-open mouth.
Bo Yi instinctively reached into his pocket. Only when his hand came up empty did he remember that his knife had fallen to the floor. Disgusted by the saliva coating it, he had yet to pick it up.
In that moment of distraction, Jiang Xiaofeng reached him and wrapped him in a tight embrace. Bo Yi struggled, only to discover to his surprise that he could not break free right away.
And Jiang Xiaofeng had already sunk his teeth savagely into his shoulder.
"Hss..." Bo Yi let out a faint hiss.
A wet, hot, piercing pain shot through his shoulder. He turned to look and saw Jiang Xiaofeng's teeth buried deep in his skin, dark red blood slowly trickling from the wound.
Jiang Xiaofeng seemed to have lost all reason. He narrowed his eyes in bliss, even loosening his hold on Bo Yi a little.
Bo Yi seized the chance and tore himself free.
Thud! A kick sent the scrawny man flying, and he crashed into the corner of the room.
Bo Yi carefully touched his wound with a fingertip. Even that light contact brought a sharp sting. His expression immediately soured.
In these conditions, he had no way to disinfect the wound.
"Cough, cough... delicious, just as I thought..." Jiang Xiaofeng coughed as he slowly climbed to his feet in the corner where he had landed. He leisurely licked the blood from the corner of his mouth, his gaze brimming with hunger and desire as he looked at Bo Yi.
Bo Yi's face turned cold in an instant. When Jiang Xiaofeng roared and lunged again, Bo Yi reached out first, seized his arm, and viciously pulled and twisted it at the shoulder joint.
A sharp crack rang out, followed by Jiang Xiaofeng's anguished howl. One arm dropped limply to his side.
"You..." His eyes bloodshot, he fixed Bo Yi with a hate-filled stare. Panting in pain, he looked just like some kind of animal. "Damn you, you've pissed me-Aaaaaah!"
Before he could finish his threat, another crack sounded, and his other arm fell limp as well.
Bo Yi dusted off his hands, then kicked him in the chest without a flicker of expression. "Did you think... I'd give you another chance to attack me?"
Without his arms to keep him balanced, Jiang Xiaofeng hit the floor with a heavy thump. Even then, he writhed desperately on the ground, trying to inch his way toward Bo Yi.
He looked exactly like a fish flopping across the floor, tossing its head and thrashing its tail.
Seeing that Jiang Xiaofeng would not reach him anytime soon, Bo Yi finally breathed a sigh of relief. Slightly winded, he sat back down on the edge of his bed to rest. For a moment, the room finally regained the quiet of the late night.
Drip...
Drip...
The distinct sound of dripping water filled the room again. Frowning, Bo Yi looked down at Jiang Xiaofeng in disgust. Why was he drooling again-no. Bo Yi's gaze sharpened.
The corners of Jiang Xiaofeng's mouth were clean.
Drip...
Drip...
The dripping continued. This time, however, Bo Yi could tell where it was coming from. He slowly raised his head.
A cold drop of water splashed onto his upturned face.
Bo Yi's heart gave a violent jolt-
He saw a face.
A deathly pale face.
The face was pressed against the opening where the roof tile had been removed, completely blocking out the moonlight. Long black hair dangled through the hole, wet strands clumped together. That was where the water dripping onto Bo Yi's face had come from.
When Bo Yi looked up, the pallid face slowly split into a grin.
When had it-
Bo Yi suddenly realized that the two players' relentless pounding on the door had stopped at some point without him noticing. The only sound left in the entire room was the intermittent drip of water.
While he was thinking, the face above him finally moved-it began squeezing itself, little by little, into the small hole in the roof.
It was coming inside.
Bo Yi immediately ran for the door, kicking Jiang Xiaofeng aside on the way as the man, still refusing to give up, opened his mouth and tried to bite his ankle.
He dashed out of the room. Inexplicably, wet trails now covered the courtyard, winding from the mouth of the well all the way up to the roof.
At the end of those trails was a soaking-wet woman. Her hair was long, trailing far behind her and leaving a wet streak across the roof. Her clothes were ragged, soaked until their original color was impossible to make out. Strangest of all, there was nothing beneath her shoulders at the front, yet her back was densely covered with arms from her shoulders to her waist.
Those arms, pale and swollen from soaking in water, either flailed wildly behind her or braced against the ground like spider legs. Apparently realizing at last that her target was gone, the woman pulled her face out of the hole in the roof. The arms supporting her began to move, slowly turning her to face Bo Yi.
Then those arms bent slightly, lowering her body. In the next instant, she shot toward Bo Yi like an arrow loosed from a bow.
Bo Yi was about to dodge when the movement tugged at the wound on his shoulder, making him falter. In that single second of hesitation, she was already upon him, the rank smell of water hitting him in the face.
In his haste, Bo Yi could only step back to try to evade her. But his foot landed on a loose stone. He instantly lost his balance and fell straight backward.
Damn it!
The thought had barely crossed his mind when he suddenly fell into a broad, powerful embrace.
