Background / History
Decline of the Tang Sect
Tang Ya is a descendant of the Tang Sect and its sole remaining member when she meets Chen Jie. Much of the sect's literature and inherited arts has been lost, leaving her struggling to restore it with Bei Bei's support. Reviving the sect and avenging her parents are her central ambitions 3 5.
Meeting Chen Jie
In the Star Dou Great Forest, Tang Ya and Bei Bei encounter a Mandala Snake suited to her Blue Silver Grass. She binds it while Bei Bei attacks, then kills it after Chen Jie's cauldron restrains it. Impressed by Chen Jie's strength and potential, she invites him into the Tang Sect 3.
After absorbing the snake's soul ring, she formally accepts Chen Jie as a member and offers him the sect's recommendation slot for Shrek Academy 4.
Forced Contract and Separation from Bei Bei
That night, Chen Jie enters Tang Ya's tent and offers to improve her cultivation through his Pure Yang Sacred Body. Its aura disrupts her self-control, and he imposes a Soul Contract that suppresses her fear and resistance. Tang Ya initially feels guilty about Bei Bei, but also sees the promised cultivation benefits as a way to restore the Tang Sect and avenge her parents 5.
The following morning, she hides the encounter from Bei Bei and travels with both men to Shrek Academy. After returning, she formally ends her relationship with Bei Bei, declares that she wants to spend her life with Chen Jie, and asks for his blessing 6 7 8.
Rebuilding at Shrek Academy
Tang Ya later seeks Chen Jie out for further cultivation assistance. In her dormitory, she gains four soul-power levels and receives the evolution of her martial soul into a Mutated Blue Silver Emperor 10 11.
After witnessing Chen Jie's victory over Xu Sanshi, she identifies Wang Dong, Xiao Xiao, and Jiang Nannan as promising recruits. All three accept her invitation, expanding the Tang Sect from two members to five. Tang Ya celebrates with a toast to their first step toward restoring the sect 25 26.
Appearance
Tang Ya is introduced as a poised young woman with a brisk, spirited bearing and a graceful, well-proportioned figure 3.
- Hair: Smooth black hair, normally tied in a simple high ponytail 3.
- Eyes: Bright and lively 3.
- Clothing: A fitted light-blue combat outfit at her first appearance 3.
- Contract mark: A pink mark on her lower abdomen following her binding to Chen Jie 6.
Personality
Tang Ya is playful and teasing, joking that Bei Bei is still “on probation” during their forest journey. She is also perceptive: she recognizes Chen Jie's hidden-weapons discussion as an excuse to spend time alone with her, and notices the concealed talent of potential Tang Sect recruits 3 26 27.
Her commitment to the Tang Sect is intense. She openly says she is willing to do anything to restore it, actively recruits talented students, and takes comfort in standing before Tang San's statue 11 26 27.
Her later attachment to Chen Jie develops under a contract that explicitly alters her feelings and suppresses resistance. She becomes affectionate and dependent, yet still experiences guilt over Bei Bei and jealousy toward other women close to Chen Jie 5 6 25 26.
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass
Her original martial soul provides battlefield control and a means of attacking restrained targets 3.
- Grows stalks from the ground to coil around enemies and restrict movement.
- Supports Bei Bei by binding the Mandala Snake during their fight.
- Uses sharpened leaf edges to cut the snake's neck and deliver the finishing blow 3.
- Gains an unnamed soul skill after absorbing the snake's thousand-year soul ring 4.
Mutated Blue Silver Emperor
Her evolved martial soul combines vigorous vitality with a fierce, devouring aura 11.
- Its vines bear jet-black patterns.
- Its emerald leaves develop small, dense thorns.
- Green light and black mist surround it, accompanied by an emperor's oppressive presence 11.
- Chen Jie later uses the shared martial soul to immobilize Wang Dong with tough, tightly coiling vines. This is a demonstrated application by Chen Jie, rather than a recorded fight by Tang Ya 12.
Soul Contract
Tang Ya is forcibly bound to Chen Jie through his contract martial soul; this is not an independently learned ability of hers 5.
- The contract system permits shared cultivation, martial-soul access, linked healing, and linked lives. Its listed effects can be disabled by Chen Jie 1.
- Her binding suppresses fear and resistance and increases her closeness to him 5.
- The system subsequently lists her Blue Silver Grass among Chen Jie's available shared martial souls 7.
- The contract cannot ordinarily be dissolved, betrayed, or disobeyed 1.
Equipment / Items
- Pink dresses resembling Xiao Wu's clothing — Given to her by Chen Jie for a future private “training” session. Tang Ya immediately recognizes their resemblance to Xiao Wu's outfit 28.
Relationships
- Chen Jie — Tang Sect recruit, cultivation benefactor, and later romantic partner. He forcibly contracts her and supplies the power and evolution card behind her documented advances 3 5 8 11.
- Bei Bei — Former lover and longtime protector who supported her efforts to revive the sect. She ends their relationship after being bound to Chen Jie; Bei Bei subsequently protects Chen Jie from Xu Sanshi to honor her wish 3 5 8.
- Jiang Nannan — Fellow student and new Tang Sect member. Tang Ya affectionately links arms with her but warns her about Chen Jie's many female companions 26.
- Wang Dong — New Tang Sect member whose talent and appearance catch Tang Ya's attention. Tang Ya initially regards Wang Dong as an attractive young boy 26.
- Xiao Xiao — Talented new recruit whom Tang Ya welcomes into the Tang Sect alongside Wang Dong and Jiang Nannan 26.
- Tang San — Revered founder of the Tang Sect. Tang Ya calls him “Ancestor Tang San” and finds reassurance before his statue 3 27.
- Her parents — Their memory motivates her desire for revenge; the provided passages do not identify those responsible 5.
