Hearing Liu Chuan's shout, Lin Yi hurried over to the highway entrance.
Even Lin Yi couldn't help drawing a sharp breath at the sight of the two battered cars approaching in the distance.
Just how brutal had things been to leave them like this?
Xu Xiaohan's group had numbered more than forty people.
And now?
Only two had made it out?
With the Soul-Devouring Saw on his back, Lin Yi immediately ran down from the highway entrance. Everyone along the way stepped aside, not daring to block him.
After all, everyone knew this man had killed before.
By the time he reached Liu Chuan's side, the two cars had slowly drawn near. They only stopped after crashing into the vehicles blocking the road.
Lin Yi reached behind him and took the Soul-Devouring Saw in hand, approaching the cars one step at a time.
Suddenly, the driver's door of the Hummer, which was little more than scrap metal now, swung open.
Thud!
Covered in blood, Xu Xiaohan fell out of the driver's seat.
A torn wound gaped in her lower abdomen, the flesh turned outward and bleeding nonstop.
One of her eyes was missing, leaving an empty socket.
Lying on the ground, Xu Xiaohan gripped her Tang Dao tightly and used it to push herself up, then staggered toward Da Mei's sedan.
Lin Yi and Liu Chuan exchanged a glance before walking over, one behind the other.
They had no idea what had happened to Xu Xiaohan.
But surely Da Mei, who possessed the Mystery-Type Sequence [Direction], would be in better shape than Xu Xiaohan?
Then they saw Xu Xiaohan yank open the sedan's door.
Under everyone's gaze, she grabbed Da Mei by the hair and dragged her out.
Half of Da Mei's body was covered in blood, and one arm was already gone.
Her once-delicate face was now crisscrossed with bloody gashes.
Disfigured?
What on earth had they gone through?
"Help... help me..."
After being dragged out, Da Mei looked at Lin Yi and Liu Chuan and pleaded, "I didn't mean to... save me... I know your secrets..."
Lin Yi's expression shifted slightly at her words.
She knew our secrets?
What did that mean?
Could Da Mei's sequence really be what he'd suspected—not some Mystery-Type Sequence [Direction], but a sequence that let her learn other people's secrets?
If that was true, he absolutely couldn't let Da Mei live!
Xu Xiaohan clutched Da Mei's hair and cursed, "You bitch! You got everyone killed, do you know that?"
"N-no, it wasn't me. I just wanted to get some supplies..."
Da Mei struggled to break free.
She even reached toward Lin Yi and Liu Chuan, begging them to intervene.
As Da Mei struggled, Xu Xiaohan seemed to exhaust the last of her strength and collapsed onto the ground.
Even so, she still held Da Mei's hair in a death grip.
That long yellow hair had become the shackles binding Da Mei.
Lin Yi walked up with the Soul-Devouring Saw in hand and stared at Xu Xiaohan. "What happened to you in town?"
"She got everyone killed. To snatch a big bag of bread, she actually pushed the others right onto that tree's roots, and that woke it up completely."
Xu Xiaohan recalled what had happened in Zhenning County Town.
"It was a level-four Corpse Tree! Almost everyone died in that area."
"If I hadn't reacted fast enough, I probably would've died there too. It was all because of that bitch Da Mei. She couldn't tell directions at all. Someone else had the sequence [Direction]!"
"That person was in her car. She fooled every last one of us!"
Hearing that, Lin Yi stepped forward and pulled the car door open.
A naked man bound with wire rolled out, half a broken branch still lodged in his head.
He was well and truly dead.
"I didn't mean to deceive you. Li Tao deserved this. He slept with me, so shouldn't he have to pay for it?"
Da Mei glared viciously at the corpse on the ground and said coldly, "My sequence is [Secret-Seer], and I learned Li Tao's secret. He actually possessed the Mystery-Type Sequence [Direction] without any side effects. Why? We're all human, so why did he get a sequence without any side effects?"
Looking at Da Mei, who had clearly gone mad, Lin Yi's brow gradually furrowed.

It looked like she might have learned his secret too.
The Mystery-Type Sequence [Enhancement] was Lin Yi's trump card. No matter what, he couldn't let anyone else learn about it.

Da Mei turned toward him with a chuckle. "Help me kill Xu Xiaohan, and I'll sleep with you. I can keep your secret too. From now on, whatever you want to know, I can tell you!"
The way she acted as though victory was assured frightened Xu Xiaohan as well.
After all, that was Da Mei's advantage.
She knew other people's secrets and used them to threaten them.
Da Mei was even offering her body as a bargaining chip, along with the help of her sequence.
Faced with that kind of temptation, it would be hard not to waver.
Xu Xiaohan watched Lin Yi warily with her remaining eye. She even released Da Mei's hair and gripped the hilt of her Tang Dao tightly with both hands.
Seeing this, Da Mei burst out laughing.
It seemed the prospect of watching Xu Xiaohan die was quite pleasing to her.
But in the next instant-
The Soul-Devouring Saw in Lin Yi's hand came down directly on Da Mei's neck.
A beastlike roar rang out.
Da Mei's head was severed cleanly from her neck.
The sharp saw blade sliced through the sedan's door with ease, like a knife sinking into tofu.
"If you try to expose someone's secrets without the strength to back it up, your fate is sealed."
Lin Yi drew back the Soul-Devouring Saw and held it at his side, his gaze settling on Xu Xiaohan.
Liu Chuan also walked over. Seeing Xu Xiaohan's miserable condition, he couldn't bring himself to be heartless. He turned and called to the onlookers, asking whether anyone had a medical kit for treating wounds.
Soon, a burly, muscular man took a first-aid kit from his car.
He seemed very wary of Lin Yi.
After taking a few steps forward, he stopped short of approaching them.
Instead, he tossed the first-aid kit straight to Liu Chuan.
As soon as Liu Chuan caught it, he stepped forward to treat Xu Xiaohan's injuries.
"Thank you..."
Xu Xiaohan breathed a sigh of relief, watching the man before her with her remaining eye.
She was filled with regret.
If she hadn't believed Da Mei, she wouldn't have ended up like this.
At that thought, she looked up at Lin Yi with her one eye. "I'm sorry. I should've listened to you earlier..."
"You don't need to apologize. It makes no difference to me whether you listen or not."
Lin Yi slung the Soul-Devouring Saw onto his back again and looked at Liu Chuan, who was crouched down treating her wounds. "Liu Chuan and I formed a convoy-the Survival Rules Convoy. He's the leader now. Do you want to join?"
