Chapter 14
Seeing Lin Yi and Xu Xiaohan enter Guangming Town together, the others in the convoy followed them in.
Everyone knew how dangerous Guangming Town was, but they had no other choice.
They had to replenish their supplies here.
Gasoline was essential right now.
They could endure an empty stomach for a while.
But running out of gasoline while fleeing meant being left behind.
Most of those entering Guangming Town were men, many with families who stayed outside to wait.
The rain was still falling. Those with umbrellas used them, while those without could only hold other things over their heads.
The moment they entered Guangming Town, an air of deathly silence washed over them.
Bloodstains were everywhere, yet there wasn't a single body.
That set alarm bells ringing in Lin Yi's mind.
There was definitely serious trouble in Guangming Town. Once he had his supplies, he had to leave immediately, before the horrors here noticed him.
After parting ways with Xu Xiaohan, Lin Yi headed straight for the pharmacy that came into view.
The pharmacy's doors stood wide open. Shattered glass littered the ground, along with all kinds of medicine.
There were also plenty of bloody drag marks on the floor, all leading out through the entrance. Clearly, the horror here would be difficult to deal with.
After briefly taking note of the pharmacy's condition, Lin Yi immediately opened the large black shoulder bag he had brought.
Although the pharmacy had already been looted, plenty of medicine remained.
Lin Yi packed it all into his bag.
This was no time to check what each box did. Medicine was an absolute necessity, and he had to take some no matter what.
Lin Yi's Sequence Transcendent ability could keep him from getting hurt. He was collecting medicine mainly to trade for other supplies when he met people later.
He might not need it himself, but someone else certainly would.
Once he had packed a decent amount of medicine, several people outside spotted him and immediately ran in to look for some themselves.
They weren't Sequence Transcendents. Medicine could save their lives.
Lin Yi left the pharmacy without a word.
As soon as he stepped outside, the sounds of fighting and scrambling for supplies reached him. The people who had entered were all focused on food.
Small shops and supermarkets became their first choices.
Lin Yi entered a shop at random and packed up the snacks and other things on the counter that nobody wanted.
Then he slipped into an oil press shop next door, not to grab cooking oil, but to take two containers used to hold it.
With the containers in hand, he hurried through town, searching for the gas station.
The enhancement the [Criminal] Sequence gave him was far from insignificant.
Even carrying supplies with the Soul-Devouring Saw on his back, he barely felt weighed down.
His steps remained light and quick.
As he made his way into the town center, Lin Yi saw an enormous Ghost Shadow perched atop a statue in the middle of town.
Its black form resembled a dark curtain, covering most of the statue.
The moment he saw the Ghost Shadow, Lin Yi slowed his steps.
This wasn't a level-one Ghost Shadow.
Lin Yi had killed a level-one Ghost Shadow before. It had been nowhere near as large as the one before him.
It seemed that while humans were awakening their Sequences, the horrors were evolving too.
The Ghost Shadow before him, already level two, was proof of that.
Taking a deep breath, Lin Yi carefully skirted the statue without disturbing the level-two Ghost Shadow, circling around the other side instead.
Soon, he reached Guangming Town's gas station.
There was no activity here. Once again, there were bloodstains, but no bodies.
After making sure his surroundings were safe, Lin Yi immediately went over to a fuel nozzle.
It wasn't particularly difficult to operate. He had seen attendants use one when filling up his car before.
Although a massacre had taken place here, fortunately, the equipment still worked.
After filling both containers with gasoline, Lin Yi also went into the service station and packed up everything inside that he thought might be useful.
Soon, his black canvas bag was bulging.
He checked the time. Twenty-five minutes had passed, so he still had enough time.
With everything packed, Lin Yi picked up the two containers of gasoline and hurried away from the gas station.
As soon as he came out, he noticed people creeping over from the other side, carrying various plastic containers. They were clearly after gasoline too.
Lin Yi ignored them and chose to retrace his steps.
Everything had gone smoothly. None of the unexpected trouble he had imagined seemed to have occurred.
But when he reached the statue, his pupils contracted and his entire body tensed.
The level-two Ghost Shadow on the statue... was gone!
In that instant, Lin Yi's heart leaped into his throat.
He didn't know who had disturbed the horror, but with the level-two creature missing, everyone in Guangming Town was now in mortal danger.
"Aah-!"
Suddenly, a scream came from behind him.
Lin Yi whipped his head around.
He saw a black shadow float out from the direction of the gas station, while a person was hurled into the air.
Before the person could fall, the Ghost Shadow lunged forward, its claws instantly piercing through their body.
In the blink of an eye, the person was torn into several pieces.
So strong!
This level-two Ghost Shadow was far more powerful than a level-one Ghost Shadow.
Even Lin Yi had only one thought when he saw it.
Run!
He was absolutely no match for the Ghost Shadow on his own.
Even with Xu Xiaohan's help, there was no way they could take it down. They weren't strong enough to fight this level-two Ghost Shadow yet.
While the Ghost Shadow attacked the others, Lin Yi ran toward the outskirts of Guangming Town without looking back.
But the earlier scream was like an alarm, shattering Guangming Town's silence.
As the others fled in terror, loud disturbances came from both the left and right sides of Guangming Town.
Clearly, the other two horrors had been drawn over as well.
Lin Yi immediately picked up speed. He didn't even look at the others fleeing beside him, thinking only of getting out of Guangming Town as quickly as possible.
With so many people entering, it was hardly surprising that something had gone wrong.
But three horrors appearing at once was definitely a major problem for them.
Lin Yi had barely run any distance when a fierce gust rushed toward him from the side.
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a black shadow charging at him. It was fast, even faster than he was.
Bang!
Lin Yi felt as though a speeding car had slammed into him. He was sent flying and crashed heavily into the metal shutter of a nearby shop...
