Chapter 30
After resting for a night, the members of the Survival Rules Convoy set out on their journey to escape the next day.
This time, the Survival Rules Convoy had received a serious upgrade.
Lin Yi had abandoned his pickup truck and instead set his sights on a BMW X7 from the Queen Convoy.
After cramming all his supplies into his new ride, he settled in to enjoy its comfort.
Sure enough, an expensive car was much more comfortable than a pickup.
The convoy continued onward. Though their numbers had dwindled, and their long procession of vehicles had shrunk to a pitiful ten cars,
everyone was much safer than before.
Besides, everyone now had plenty of supplies, so there was no need to risk searching for more.
Inside the lead car.
As Wang Gui drove, he watched their convoy leader through the rearview mirror.
Liu Chuan sat in the back seat, holding the pink, eerie gourd in his arms.
The gourd released great clouds of pink mist, dreamlike and ethereal.
As the mist solidified, images of their convoy's ten cars actually appeared on its surface, viewed from above.
With a thought, Liu Chuan saw Ji Qingcang telling his daughter Ji Xiaoxiao a story in their car. His wife, Liu Man, was driving. The couple worked together, and neither looked the least bit tired.
At a glance, they looked like a family of three on a road trip.
Soon, the image shifted again, and Lin Yi appeared inside his car.
Lin Yi had a cigarette dangling from his lips and looked utterly laid-back. Every so often, he even let out a fart, with no concern whatsoever for his image.
That certainly suited Lin Yi's personality. He did whatever he pleased.
Then he checked on the others.
In the cars behind them,
two men and two women were trading dirty jokes, the men teasing the women until they blushed.
Four grown men were discussing whether to take their supplies and leave the convoy.
Three people were in another car. One woman drove, while the other man and woman were going at it in the back seat.
At that moment, the delightful thrill of spying filled Liu Chuan's heart.
He couldn't help grinning as he excitedly hugged the gourd, his eyes glued to the images.
The apocalypse was boring, but wasn't this entertaining?
Wang Gui watched his leader grow more and more perverse, even giggling to himself at the pink mist, a trace of excitement in his voice.
It's over.
Our convoy leader has completely fallen from grace.
Once the convoy left Cloudpan City's boundaries entirely, they entered Guizhou Province.
For the convoy, this was a major step forward.
From the moment they entered Guizhou Province, the convoy picked up speed considerably. With Liu Chuan constantly warning and guiding them, they avoided many dangers posed by Aberrations.
The expressway was the convoy's first choice, as Lin Yi had specifically requested.
They were to take the expressway whenever possible and avoid shortcuts or minor roads unless absolutely necessary.
At least the expressway was wide and open, letting everyone drive with greater peace of mind and avoid unnecessary mishaps.
Just as the convoy pulled off the expressway into a rest area, they discovered more than fifty cars parked there. Clearly, a sizeable convoy was present.
Seeing another convoy arrive, its members couldn't help casting curious looks their way.
Some, however, remained wary.
Liu Chuan used the Passive Gourd to inspect the area around the rest stop. Only after confirming that no other convoys were hiding nearby did he hang the Passive Gourd at his waist and get out with a megaphone in hand.
Lin Yi and Ji Qingcang got out as well, one carrying the Soul-Devouring Saw on his back and the other holding a baseball bat.
Ji Qingcang's baseball bat was worth noting. It had cartoon characters on it, clearly drawn there by his daughter.
The two stood directly behind Liu Chuan, watching the people in the rest area warily.
Before long, the other convoy's leader came out with three people.
Like Liu Chuan, the man leading them had a scholarly air. He wore a loose baseball uniform and carried an open black umbrella.
Behind him were twin girls, one holding a saber and the other a sword. They looked about eighteen.
There was also a tall, powerfully built man, a full head taller than even Ji Qingcang.
"Hello. Wang Xufei, leader of the Hope Convoy. [Watcher] Sequence."
"Hello. Liu Chuan, leader of the Survival Rules Convoy. [Watcher] Sequence."
Both leaders belonged to the Watcher Sequence, which came as a slight surprise to the people on either side.
These days, the strongest person called the shots in most convoys. Very few had truly recognized that the [Watcher] Sequence should take priority.
Neither had expected to meet another here.
Both Wang Xufei and Liu Chuan were thinking the same thing.
"Your convoy's pretty small."
Wang Xufei asked with a smile, "Judging by your route, you fled from the coast? How did you end up coming through Guizhou Province?"
The man began probing into the Survival Rules Convoy's situation right away, with a hint of wariness.
"We originally had over a thousand people. Something happened within the convoy, and more than six hundred left with people from another convoy. The rest followed us as we fled along the way, but another convoy set us up. So many died that we're all that's left."
Liu Chuan briefly described their experiences, but didn't explain in detail why they had come to Guizhou Province.
The reason was simple.
An Aberration had forced them to take a detour.
They had originally planned to follow their route straight through, but on rainy days, the greatest fear was the Rain Man's appearance. A Tier Three Aberration was absolutely beyond any convoy's ability to withstand at this stage.
Using the Passive Gourd, Liu Chuan had discovered that the Tier Three Aberration, the Rain Man, had appeared on their original route.
To keep the convoy safe, Liu Chuan had been forced to detour through Guizhou Province.
Hearing Liu Chuan's words, the hulking man from the Hope Convoy suddenly demanded angrily, "You ran into those bitches from the Queen Convoy, didn't you?"
"Huh? You've run into them too?" Liu Chuan looked over in surprise.
"This is Wang Meng. He used to lead the Fitness Convoy, but the Queen Convoy ambushed them. Only he and three others escaped."
Wang Xufei explained with a smile, "After that, he joined my Hope Convoy. We've been here for three days, waiting for the Queen Convoy to show up so we can get rid of that cancer."
Liu Chuan didn't mention that they had already dealt with the Queen Convoy. Instead, he frowned and asked, "Three days? Aren't you afraid an Aberration will find you?"
With so many people gathered together for three days, had no Aberration discovered them?
"We were discovered long ago."
Wang Xufei gave a bitter laugh and shook his head. "From the moment we entered this rest area, that Aberration had its eye on us. And now the same goes for you..."
