Lin Yi looked at the house closest to them. After a brief hesitation, he led Zhu Cheng over.
The two glanced at the other houses around them, then reached out to try pushing the door.
With just one push, the door swung open.
The sound of the door opening was especially grating in the silence, and the lantern overhead began to sway gently.
Lin Yi kept watching their surroundings, ready to react immediately if anything happened.
But the danger he had imagined never appeared. Instead, as the door opened, the aroma of food wafted out, surprising them both.
The room was part of a typical little village house, with a fairly complete set of furniture. The only problem was the food laid out on the table.
That was right.
There was no one in the house, not even an Aberration Creature.
Yet the food on the table gave off a delicious aroma, with steam still rising from it. It looked freshly cooked.
It was as though this whole table of food had been prepared to welcome them.
"Brother-in-law, what... what's going on?"
Zhu Cheng poked her head out from behind Lin Yi and asked.
Lin Yi shook his head lightly. "I'm not sure either. It's hard to make sense of the situation right now. Let's take it one step at a time."
With that, he led Zhu Cheng into the room.
The two carefully checked every corner of the room, searching every place they thought someone could hide.
There wasn't a soul in sight.
There weren't even any footprints. Everything about the table of food felt eerie, making them both frown.
"There's no one here, so what's with the food?"
"No idea."
"Don't touch any of it yet," Lin Yi said gravely. "We don't know what's going on
