Chapter 37

Night fell.

The service area sank into deathly silence. Darkness swallowed the entire place like an endless abyss.

Beneath that silence came the patter of rain against the roofs of the vehicles parked there, making it hard for anyone to sleep peacefully.

Over at the Survival Rules Convoy.

Ji Qingcang and Wang Meng held umbrellas as they stood guard on opposite sides.

Shen Qingqing and Shen Chuchu stayed inside the Rain Shelter, clutching their blades and watching the darkness outside.

On the roof of the Huolala van, Lin Yi stood in the darkness with the Soul-Devouring Saw on his back and a black umbrella in his hand, quietly surveying his surroundings.

Liu Chuan glanced at Wang Gui, who had already fallen asleep in the driver's seat, then took out the Passive Gourd and used its pink mist to watch the Hope Convoy inside the service building.

Tonight was destined to be sleepless. Everyone stayed alert and on guard.

People would disappear during the night.

The terrifying noise immediately woke everyone inside. They all stared in horror at Lin Yi and the Soul-Devouring Saw in his hand.

What was this guy... doing in the middle of the night?

Was he going to kill them all?

After bursting in, Lin Yi ran straight toward Wang Xufei. The flaming chainsaw in his hand made Wang Xufei's scalp prickle.

As the saw blade approached him, his legs began trembling uncontrollably.

Behind Wang Xufei were Minister Qian and his woman.

The two were holding each other, staring in terror at Lin Yi and his chainsaw.

Looking at where Lin Yi stood, Wang Xufei realized that the Aberration had been right behind him. It had probably been about to attack him.

Just then, Liu Chuan hurried inside, still carrying his Amplifying Megaphone. Pink mist slowly flowed from the gourd at his waist and curled around his body.

"It's gone. It noticed you the moment you went in."

Liu Chuan hurried over to Lin Yi, then shone his flashlight at the floor by his feet.

A patch of thick, transparent liquid lay beneath Lin Yi's feet.

But the liquid seemed confined to that one spot. There was none anywhere else.

The Aberration seemed to have appeared only in that small patch.

Lin Yi studied the transparent liquid beneath him thoughtfully, then swept his gaze over the crowd before turning and walking outside without a word.

Liu Chuan followed him out as well.

Wang Xufei had intended to ask them about it, but when the two simply left, he did not know what to do.

Once outside, the two headed back toward their convoy.

"We can rule out the worst-case scenario now. This Aberration can turn invisible, and there's a strong chance it's connected to a person!"

Lin Yi's voice was low. "Either it can take human form, or it's hiding on someone's body. But we can confirm that Wang Meng and the other two have nothing to do with it."

"That's good!"

Although Liu Chuan had agreed to let the three join the convoy, he also had to fulfill his responsibilities as captain.
