Sending him to attack Caer Darrow might have been genuine, but if he failed to take it and was wiped out by the Barov Family instead, they would have done Blackmoore's dirty work for him. The four thousand troops following behind would then continue the attack, carrying on with the original plan.
And if he did capture Caer Darrow, those four thousand men would still attack it. Only then, their enemy would be Rhode.
In fact, if the Lordaeron Royal Family never asked about it, all well and good. If they did demand an explanation, Blackmoore could simply pin the blame on Rhode, passing it off as a private feud between him and the Barov Family to better conceal their treasonous plot.

There were just two things Rhode still couldn't figure out.
First, when had Blackmoore started suspecting me? What made him lay this trap within a trap to get me?
He hadn't done anything particularly unusual lately. At most, he had chatted with Thrall.
If that had exposed him, the guards' subsequent report should have mentioned it, and Blackmoore would have reacted then.
Besides, he wouldn't have said something like, "Thrall and Rhode seem to be on friendly terms," to Colonel Scarlet just now. He would have used something more definite, like, "Rhode is conspiring with Thrall."
So although Rhode knew Blackmoore would see through his intentions sooner or later, he couldn't understand exactly where he had slipped up.
Second, was Blackmoore really so sure those four thousand men could defeat him?
After all, he had a unit of around thirty Magic
