"Uncle, this doesn't look like the way home."

After they entered a deserted alley, Li Chen pretended to be afraid.

"This is the way to my home." The sleazy middle-aged man had dropped all pretense. "Just let that little girl behind you give me a good time, and I'll let you both go."

Li Chen immediately grabbed Wine Fox's hand and ran. The sleazy man simply stood there watching, seemingly unafraid that they might escape.

Just as they were about to reach the alley's exit, two others blocked their path: a tall man with a bulbous red nose and small eyes, and a crooked-mouthed man who swaggered with his shoulders swaying.

The two advanced on them step by step, forcing them to retreat slowly. Soon, all three men had them surrounded.

"Tsk, tsk, there's even one whose martial soul awakening failed. Those ears and that tail-what a prize."

"I've never had one this tender before. I get to go first."

"We'll tie this brat up beside us and make him watch. Heh heh heh."

As Li Chen listened to their conversation, the three men had already drawn very close. He suddenly squeezed Wine Fox's hand hard to signal her, then decisively summoned his martial soul.

"You actually-!" The sleazy man reacted, but before he could finish, everything froze.

Li Chen first slashed his sword across the necks of the two men in front of him. The spraying blood hung frozen in midair, and before the time stop ended, he thrust his sword at the tall man to make certain he killed one first.

The next second, time resumed. The tall man stared wide-eyed at the Stone Sword buried in his heart. He tried to speak, but no sound came out. Finally, he toppled over stiffly, releasing a pile of experience points.

The crooked-mouthed skinny man beside him was hardly any better off. First his neck bled profusely, then his companion suddenly collapsed.

Li Chen had no intention of giving him a chance to use his martial soul. He swiftly pulled out the Stone Sword and drove another thrust into his abdomen.

Soon, the skinny man fell just like the tall one and lay motionless.

Meanwhile, Wine Fox had understood his signal and vanished from his side, leaving only a few purple particles behind.

"Aah-!"

The next second, he heard a scream behind him. He turned to see the sleazy man's right hand flying through the air.

The sleazy man hastily summoned his martial soul, a pair of pink cups, and four soul rings appeared beneath his feet.

"Second soul skill, Heaven's Net Cover!"

The two pink cups rapidly expanded and dropped toward Wine Fox's head.

Just as the sleazy man thought he had successfully trapped her, the cups caught only a few purple particles. Wine Fox had already appeared behind him.

Another precise slash severed his remaining left hand, followed by a reverse thrust into his thigh.

Li Chen had never expected master-level combat awareness to be this powerful. She was beating a Soul Ancestor into submission with teleportation alone.

When her opponent tried to flee, Wine Fox fired another Tracking Bullet. The hit sent him floating into the air, and she cleanly severed both his legs.

Wine Fox clearly needed no help. Li Chen casually stabbed the crooked-mouthed skinny man again, this time where his heart was on the right side. He hadn't released any experience points, yet he still wanted to play dead in front of Li Chen.

Only after the man released experience points did Li Chen turn and approach the sleazy man, who had been reduced to a limbless torso. Seeing him approach, the man tried to get away, but with his hands and feet severed, all he could do was writhe back and forth on the ground.

"Who did you say you were going to make watch?" Li Chen asked coldly, stepping on the man's crotch. As he spoke, he pressed down harder. He had no desire to hear the man's nonsense; it would be either begging or curses.

"Aaaah-!"

Listening to the man's screams, Li Chen felt that simply killing him would let him off far too easily, but they were still in the city.

Someone else might have spared his miserable life after seeing him reduced to a limbless torso, but Li Chen would not.

Li Chen thrust his sword through the man's mouth and straight through his skull, leaving him utterly dead.

"Let's go. Stop looking, or you'll have nightmares tonight."

"I won't have nightmares as long as I'm beside you, Master."

Neither of them looked as though they had just killed anyone. They left the scene as if nothing had happened.

The sleazy man's final screams drew someone over to investigate, and they discovered three corpses, one of which had even had all four limbs severed.

The killers, however, were nowhere to be found.

As more and more people gathered, someone recognized them: Suotuo City's Three Perverts, notorious flower-plucking rapists.

Now that they had been killed, practically everyone applauded. Some even wanted to thank the heroes who had rid the people of these scourges.

The two paid little attention to what happened afterward. After leaving a Teleportation Stele near Suotuo City, they returned to the village.

"Just three people shot me straight up to level forty!" Li Chen felt the soul power inside him. Was this leveling speed really not tempting him down the path of an Evil Soul Master?

But he soon realized that the bandits he had encountered earlier hadn't given much experience. For these kills to raise him several levels, those three men's soul power levels must have been very high-at least higher than his.

That almost made him want to head to Slaughter City for an all-you-can-eat buffet, but that place was the Asura God's territory.

For one thing, he wasn't sure whether he could force his way out using a Teleportation Stele.

Even if he could, going in and out like that would easily attract the Asura God's attention. He didn't want to come into contact with those gods too early.

If the Asura God thought Li Chen threatened his successor, then even if he couldn't act directly, he could still pull little tricks to undermine him.

That old bastard really was capable of it. Just look at how Tang Chen had ended up parasitized by a soul beast on the Asura God's own turf.

And Tang San hadn't even needed to undergo the Asura God's first eight trials. He had directly inherited Tang Chen's results. Apparently, even divine succession allowed someone else to take the tests for you.

Clearly, Tang Chen was merely a stepping stone for a successor chosen in advance. Li Chen had no desire to enter the Asura God's sights early and become someone else's stepping stone through some unknown scheme.

That was why he had never intended to take the shortcut of divine trials to level up quickly. After all, the successors to those divine positions might already have been selected.

Besides, he had a cheat. Level forty at seven years old-by the time Tang San entered Shrek, he might already be a Titled Douluo.

At his current age and level, he already had more than enough of a lead. As long as he didn't go out courting trouble, he had plenty of time.

Tomorrow, he still needed to help little Wine Fox obtain a soul ring and casually pick one up for himself along the way. After a quick wash, he lay down in bed and went to sleep.

The main problem was that this era of Douluo offered little entertainment-or rather, none at all. It seemed he would have to move establishing an academy further up his agenda, too.

He knew he wasn't a genius, so he would gather talented people from across the continent and teach them some basic knowledge.

Once he had cultivated a group of talented people, he could give them a few ideas. Perhaps they would manage to create things like phones and computers.

Failing that, he could also play with the academy's students. As for how, he could draw inspiration from Classroom of the Elite.
