Lynn gazed at Zuo Zuo, pinned beneath him. She was still the same as ever, except that her eyes were filled with hurt and glistening tears.
She had noticed something was wrong with him.
Even though he had told her nothing.
Perhaps it was because they were connected, or perhaps because they had spent so long together. She could always pick up on even the slightest change in him, despite how hard he had tried these past few days to seem like his usual self.
Lynn took a deep breath and finally lay down, staring at the ceiling in bewilderment.
Because...
Zuo Zuo.
Brain couldn't find his way anymore.
Zuo Zuo rolled onto her side, her eyes flickering as she gazed at Lynn beside her. Finally, she forced back her sobs and said,
"Can't you tell me anything at all? I don't want to see you like this. You've had times like this before, but you always put them behind you so quickly. Because to me, Brain, you've never been someone who could be broken. No matter how terrible the hardship was, you never backed down..."
She finally seized his wrist and buried her face hard against his shoulder, squeezing her eyes shut to keep those hurt tears from spilling. Yet her body wouldn't stop trembling.
"How can this be..."
"How can you be like this..."
Only now did Lynn understand.
Over these past few days, he hadn't been the only one enduring that torment. There was someone beside him who had been suffering even more because of him.
He finally took a deep breath, gazed up at the ceiling, and clasped her hand.
"I don't want this either, Zuo Zuo."
"But..."
"So many people are counting on you. So many people hope you'll lead them out of this Hell.
