Just like their previous descent into the Ice Giant, this journey brought a few scares but no real danger.
After passing through the ammonia ice clouds and thunderstorm layer, the [Poseidon Type II] Exploration Ship plunged into the boundless Liquid Ammonia Ocean amid a patter of liquid ammonia rain.
Unlike the first-generation [Poseidon] Exploration Ship, the Second-Generation Exploration Ship had abandoned propeller propulsion in favor of a Waterjet Propulsion System to avoid provoking the giant fish's "displeasure."
Though much less efficient than propellers, the new system had the advantage of being quiet.
Under the searchlights, the dark water lay still, seemingly devoid of life.
But Hope and Hansent, who had survived the previous life-or-death crisis, were not fooled by appearances.
They silently switched on the Active Sonar Device and steered the Exploration Ship deeper into the Liquid Ammonia Ocean.
Likewise, to avoid provoking the giant fish's "displeasure," the Active Sonar Device had undergone some modifications-it now used the same baseline frequency as the giant fish to scan its surroundings.
"To the giant fish, this Exploration Ship might 'look' like one of their own that can't speak."
Lü Yongchang had told them this frankly the day before departure.
"So, according to our hypothesis, these highly curious giant fish might travel a long way to investigate when they hear this frequency."
