Background / History
Tang Hao is Ah Yin’s husband and Tang San’s father. Ah Yin is a hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor, whose bloodline Tang San inherited. Tang Hao knows the location of the Blue Silver Forest and believes that his son can awaken the Blue Silver Emperor there 17 113 114.
According to Sunday’s account, Tang Hao killed the previous Angel Douluo—Qian Renxue’s father—more than a decade earlier. The resulting feud made Spirit Hall and the Clear Sky Sect mortal enemies and drove the sect into seclusion. Sunday also attributes the abandonment of the Four Great Clans to the sect’s attempts to protect itself from the consequences of Tang Hao’s actions 44 184.
Tang San grew up with Tang Hao in Holy Soul Village. Tang Hao’s household neglect contributed to his son’s childhood malnutrition, one of the deficiencies later remedied in Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass. After Tang San left home, Tang Hao secretly followed him and monitored his companions 9 17 102.
Appearance
Tang Hao is a powerfully built, disheveled man usually concealed beneath a black robe 9 17.
- Unkempt face: Revealed when he removes his robe during his reunion with Tang San 17.
- Strong body odor: Tang San is accustomed to the sour stench from their years living together 17.
- Vagrant-like bearing: His relaxed appearance returns once he believes the Strength Clan’s destruction poses no danger to him 47.
Personality
Tang Hao places the Clear Sky Sect’s standing above the welfare of its former retainers. He resents Bai He for keeping a valuable herb instead of offering it to the sect, regards Tai Tan as a disposable slave, and tells Tang San to make use of Tai Long after the Strength Clan’s destruction 18 47 48. His attachment to the sect is also volatile: hearing tavern patrons disparage it provokes him into murder 119 120.
His treatment of Tang San mixes practical support with coercion. He obtains medicine to repair his son’s martial soul and feels a brief warmth when Tang San worries about his injuries, but repeatedly slaps him for hesitation or interference with his plans. He also instructs Tang San to maintain the appearance of a respectful disciple while secretly exploiting Yu Xiaogang 17 18 19 47.
Tang Hao becomes deferential when confronted by superior strength. After Sunday injures him, he apologizes and addresses him as “Senior,” while privately feeling humiliated and insisting that his prime strength would have been sufficient 15. Sunday later argues that Tang Hao sees Tang San principally as a means of returning to the Clear Sky Sect; this interpretation is consistent with Tang Hao’s satisfaction that his son’s progress improves those prospects 47 171.
Abilities & Skills
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang Hao’s martial soul manifests as an enormous, pitch-black hammer capable of threatening multiple powerful opponents at once 14.
- Forces Dugu Bo to withdraw his martial soul and retreat 14.
- Continues toward the Heaven Dou group, prompting Gu Rong and the academy’s education committee members to prepare their Martial Soul Avatars 14.
- Knocks Yu Xiaogang unconscious and sends Liu Erlong crashing into a courtyard wall 15.
- Is knocked away by Sunday, injuring Tang Hao through the exchange 15.
Great Sumeru Hammer
Tang Hao uses Great Sumeru Hammer in his direct confrontation with Sunday 15.
- Launches the attack while airborne, with his hammer producing a fierce gale and sonic booms 15.
- Prepares to detonate all his soul rings before Sunday offers him a conditional chance to leave; the passage does not confirm that he carries out the detonation 15.
- Fails to overcome Sunday, who sends the attack flying with one palm strike 16.
Soul Power Control and Mobility
Tang Hao can conceal his presence, move rapidly, fly, and stop projectiles with soul power 16 18 47.
- Secretly shadows Tang San from nearby trees and woodland 9.
- Stops the bolts from Tang San’s Zhuge Repeating Crossbow before they reach Yu Xiaogang 18.
- Flies after the fleeing Shrek group despite his injuries 16.
- Enters Heaven Dou City with a well-concealed presence, although Sunday immediately detects him 47.
Cultivation Planning
Tang Hao plans Tang San’s cultivation around the eventual development of his second martial soul, the Clear Sky Hammer 17 18.
- Treats Blue Silver Grass as a stepping stone toward cultivating the hammer 17.
- Originally intends to awaken the Blue Silver Emperor at level fifty or sixty to obtain a compatible soul ring and accelerate Tang San’s advancement 17.
- Orders Tang San to wait until becoming a Titled Douluo before adding soul rings to his second martial soul 18.
- Keeps Yu Xiaogang alive to obtain the secret of twin martial soul cultivation through his lover 19.
Equipment / Items
- Black robe — Used to conceal his appearance while following Tang San 9 17.
- Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng — Takes a mature, five-thousand-year-old specimen from Bai He and delivers it to Tang San, allowing his son to repair his martial soul and reach level forty 44 47.
- Additional ginseng roots — Brings several younger roots resembling cultivated substitutes alongside the mature specimen 47.
Relationships
- Tang San — Son. Tang Hao protects his cultivation prospects, directs his choices, and views his growing strength as an opportunity to return to the Clear Sky Sect 17 18 47.
- Ah Yin — Wife and Tang San’s mother. Tang Hao admits that he brought harm upon her; Sunday later criticizes his handling of their son’s inherited martial soul 18 114.
- Tang Xiao — Brother and Clear Sky Sect master. Tang Xiao reacts negatively when Tang Lie curses Tang Hao, while the sect’s elders remain dissatisfied with him 69 188.
- Tang Yuehua — Sister. She handles the Clear Sky Sect’s affairs in Heaven Dou City and faces imperial distrust partly resulting from Tang Hao’s attack 35 188.
- Bai He — Maternal uncle and Speed Clan leader. Tang Hao takes the clan’s treasured ginseng from him; Bai He is seriously injured during the robbery 44 47.
- Tai Tan — Loyal retainer who calls himself Tang Hao’s household servant. Tang Hao recommends the Strength Clan as a refuge for Tang San but privately dismisses Tai Tan’s death as inconsequential 18 35 47.
- Yu Xiaogang — Tang San’s teacher and a tool in Tang Hao’s cultivation plans. Tang Hao despises him but prevents his murder until his connection to twin martial soul knowledge can be exploited 9 19.
- Xiao Wu — Tang San’s companion. Tang Hao orders his son to keep her close; Qian Renxue interprets his intervention as an attempt to preserve access to her hundred-thousand-year soul ring and soul bone 18 98.
- Sunday — Overwhelmingly stronger opponent who defeats him and exposes the weaknesses in his plans for Tang San 15 16 171.
- Qian Renxue — Enemy whose father Tang Hao killed. His appearance renews her desire for revenge against him and Tang San 15 184.
- Ning Fengzhi — Political enemy after Tang Hao’s attack endangers him and Ning Rongrong. Ning avoids direct confrontation and instead targets the Clear Sky Sect’s support network 20 32.

- Throws his hammer to force Dugu Bo away and rescue Yu Xiaogang, whose connections he still needs 14.
- Increases the attack’s power after Yu Xiaogang exposes his identity, endangering the assembled Heaven Dou group 14.

- Prevents Tang San from killing Yu Xiaogang and explains why the teacher must remain alive 18 19.
- Leaves to obtain Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng; Ning Fengzhi exploits his absence to attack the Strength Clan 32 44.
- Returns with the herb and praises Tang San’s advancement, but shows relief rather than grief when told how the Strength Clan was destroyed 47.
Loss of Ah Yin’s Hiding Place
- Remains close to Tang San as incidents accumulate in Heaven Dou City, leaving Ah Yin’s cave unattended 64.

- Kills a tavern patron for disparaging the Clear Sky Sect, then reveals all nine soul rings 119.
- Summons his hammer and attacks the remaining people as they attempt to flee 120.
- Investigators subsequently report a nearby massacre with no survivors and hammer-type destruction. Sunday and Qian Renxue identify Tang Hao as the likely perpetrator, and Qian Renxue proposes issuing a warrant in Heaven Dou City 121.
