Background

At age twelve, Bucciarati killed a man sent to silence his ailing father, protecting him at the cost of becoming unwelcome in both ordinary society and the underworld. Passion subsequently gave Bucciarati and his father shelter; his father later died peacefully under that protection. 65

Bucciarati had been involved in the underworld since age fourteen. Although grateful to Passion, he resented the drug trade that had brought suffering into his life and wanted to change the organization from within. 55 65 He sought promotion to Capo because greater authority would let him better protect Naples and preserve its peace. 36

Hunt for Li Qing

Polpo ordered Bucciarati's team to locate and kill Li Qing, whose death carried the reward of a Capo position. Bucciarati led the pursuit through the devastated area near Mount Vesuvius and relied on Abbacchio's Moody Blues for tracking. 35 36

He fought Li Qing directly, using Steel Chain Fingers to disable Li Qing's body. Though Bucciarati initially refused Li Qing's offer to rebel, he was eventually defeated and forced to reconsider his allegiance. 55 58

Defection from Passion

After Li Qing captured the team, Bucciarati chose to join him in challenging Diavolo. He proposed attacking key Passion departments to force the hidden Boss into the open, using his knowledge of the organization to shape the rebellion's strategy. 65

Rome Operation

While racing Diavolo to Rome, Bucciarati ordered the group to parachute from their targeted helicopter and reach the Colosseum as quickly as possible. 187 He landed with Abbacchio in a dangerous city park, where he intervened to stop Abbacchio from killing a knife-wielding addict outright. 193

The pair later confronted Anthony Kanchi and King of Rivers. Bucciarati engineered a layered deception involving a rescued addict's arm, Steel Chain Fingers, his own body, and the hidden Abbacchio.
