Black Zetsu continued.
White Zetsu had not come into being naturally. They were weapons Kaguya had created before she was sealed away, meant to fight her own kin.
Kaguya was not the only member of the Ōtsutsuki Clan. They were a race, one that came from far away and possessed immense power.
Kaguya had come to this planet and planted the God Tree to fight them, and to protect herself.
Infinite Tsukuyomi was not a genjutsu. It was a sacrifice.
Those caught in Infinite Tsukuyomi would be entangled in the God Tree's roots, slowly drained of their chakra, and eventually turned into White Zetsu.
White Zetsu were weapons, weapons meant to fight the Ōtsutsuki Clan.
"Mother's ancestors weren't from this planet."
Black Zetsu's voice was low, as though he were reciting an ancient epic.
"They came from a distant place, from a clan called the Ōtsutsuki. Every few hundred years, this clan sends people to different planets to plant God Trees and harvest chakra. Mother was one of the envoys sent to this planet."
Jiraiya's brow furrowed deeply.
"Envoys? Planting trees? Harvesting?"
Black Zetsu glanced at him.
"You heard me correctly. Mother's mission was to plant the God Tree, wait for it to bear fruit, and hand that fruit over to the Ōtsutsuki Main Family. But she betrayed the clan and ate the fruit herself, gaining the God Tree's power. From then on, she ruled this land. The Ōtsutsuki Main Family won't let her get away with it. They will send someone. It's only a matter of time."
The meeting room fell silent.
Hashirama had never looked so grave.
"So you spent over a thousand years plotting to revive Kaguya, not to rule the world, but to fight your mother's kin?"
Something indescribable stirred inside Black Zetsu, something almost bitter.
