Rather than treating coexistence as a slogan, he asks what place the Uchiha intend to occupy within the village 18 34 35.

Sasuke’s future is central to his decisions. When clan tensions reach a crisis, he seriously considers killing the hardliners to buy time for his brother and the remaining Uchiha. Genya’s alternative persuades him because it offers a chance for Sasuke’s generation to inherit a different future 37 38 40.

Genya initially associates Itachi with the massacre he expects from the original course of events; this is a feared future, not an accomplished massacre in the novel’s developing timeline. Their first encounter occurs while Itachi is walking with Sasuke in ANBU uniform 9 10 13.

At the clan meeting, Itachi challenges the Uchiha to choose between domination and coexistence. He briefly takes Genya’s threat against the hardliners literally, preparing to draw his blade, but withdraws when Genya presents a concrete strategy of alliances, public integration, and resistance to Danzō 35 37 38.

He then helps plan the intelligence strategy and supports the cultural initiative. After hearing Genya’s performance, he promises to request leave from the Hokage and devote himself to the project.
