(If he survives this chapter, I'll eat it.)
"Huh?"
Steward Huang's mouth fell open at those words.
Clearly, he hadn't expected the normally easygoing Liu Tie to answer like that.
"What do you mean, huh? If they do something stupid and lure out a ghost, we won't even have a chance to run."
With that, Liu Tie said no more.
He waved and got straight into the vehicle with the two people beside him.
Then they set off again.
Everyone who had been waiting for Liu Tie to make a decision was dumbfounded. None of them had expected him to simply wash his hands of the matter.
They wanted to condemn him, but their accusations couldn't keep up with his SUV.
Seeing this, the veteran survivors hurried after him, leaving the youngsters standing there in bewilderment.
But they soon hurried to catch up as well.
After all, falling behind in this world of horrors could be fatal.
But while some left, others stayed.
A handful of survivors who were running low on supplies remained where they were.
There weren't many.
Besides Fan Shang, there was a fat man with two lackeys, a grandmother and her grandson, a college couple, and five other survivors.
Fan Shang glanced over and saw the grandmother and grandson talking to the couple.
"Young man, my grandson and I haven't eaten in so long. Please, I'm begging you. Just think of it as helping an old woman..."
"Waaah! Grandma, I want meat! I want meat!"
"Ma'am, I... we don't have many supplies left either..."
The college boy sounded troubled.
His girlfriend tugged at his sleeve, trying to signal him to refuse outright.
But when the grandmother saw this, her eyes lit up.
Then...
"Oh, young man, please. My grandson hasn't eaten in so long. It doesn't matter if an old woman like me dies, but please save my grandson..."
"Ma'am, my boyfriend already told you. We don't have many supplies left either..."
The girl frowned.
Her boyfriend wanted to say something else, but a glare from her silenced him.
But how could the old woman give up?
She launched into another round of pleading, saying they couldn't just stand by and let them die, saying she would get down on her knees.
Finally...
"Young man, I know, I know you don't have many supplies left either. But aren't there some right over there? Please do us a favor. Please bring those supplies back. Once you get them, just share a little with my grandson and me."
"Just a little..."
The boy couldn't help feeling torn.
He looked at the supplies on the corpse nearby and swallowed.
Truthfully, the very reason he had stopped here was that they were running low on supplies.
But no matter how he looked at the patch of flowers in front of him, it felt like a trap. Normally, he would have turned and left long ago, but the problem remained...
They were running low on supplies. That was why he had stayed.
He was clinging to a sliver of hope.
After all, what if? What if it wasn't a trap? Wouldn't that mean they could get a whole bag of supplies?
"No. Ma'am, if you're so hungry, why don't you get it yourself? You have hands and feet. Why should my boyfriend go?"
The girl's tone turned hostile.
She was kind by nature, but that didn't mean she was an idiot. This was obviously a trap. Wouldn't going over there make them fucking morons?
"Oh, young lady, please have a heart. Take pity on an old woman like me. You're young and strong, and you can run fast. But me... sigh..."
But how could the old woman give up? She had finally found someone easy to fool. Of course she would milk him for all he was worth.
After another round of sweet talk, the boy looked increasingly tempted.
"Yi Hang, look, since she's put it that way, we..."
Just as the girl was about to lose her temper and curse out the old hag for treating them like idiots-
The finishing blow came.
"Young man, my grandson and I won't take your supplies for nothing. Aren't all of us here for that bag of supplies? How about this? You just go get it, and once you have it, give my grandson and me a little.
"We'll back you up then. With the four of us, no one will dare try to take your supplies."
That was what the old woman said.
But the girl was utterly stunned by those words.
Because she couldn't see where these supposed four people came from.
That old woman and child would probably go down with a single punch.
The girl tried to hold her boyfriend back, but it was already too late.
He had already stepped forward.
"Hey, you all heard that, right? It's the apocalypse now. You all know the rules. Whoever gets that bag of supplies owns it. Since none of you dare go get it, have some shame once I bring it back."
"If you try to steal it, don't blame the four of us for getting rough."
The boy spoke bluntly, waving his hefty fist as a threat.
"Don't..."
His girlfriend tried to stop him.
But he turned around and spoke first.
"Baby, just wait here for me..."
With that, he flashed a smile he thought looked handsome.
Little did he know that the sight left his girlfriend completely dumbfounded.
She didn't even have time to stop him.
As for what the boy had just said, not a single person around them took it seriously.
But no one spoke up to stop or dissuade him either.
They silently watched him draw closer to the corpse. After all, having someone else spring the trap was always a good thing, wasn't it?
Fan Shang watched in silence as well.
After all, Fan Shang had never considered himself a good person. Simply refraining from egging the boy on already counted as a good deed.
Why would he stop him?
This was the apocalypse. Everyone had to take responsibility for their own choices.
Over the past week, the survivors who had escaped the university had dwindled from over ten thousand to just over a hundred. Fan Shang had witnessed people being falsely accused after trying to stop someone at least a dozen times, if not hundreds.
From the moment those horrific monsters appeared, Fan Shang had understood that the world had changed.
To survive in this cruel world of horrors-
Fan Shang knew he could rely only on himself and the blade in his hand.
Besides... he needed supplies too!
"Come back! Don't go..."
The girl tried to stop him, but as though eager to show off, her boyfriend dashed straight into the flowers.
Then he grabbed the bag in the corpse's arms and hurried back.
Everyone around them instantly went on guard, ready to run at the first sign of trouble.
But surprisingly, the boy suffered no attack after picking up the bag. Even after he ran out of the flower patch, neither the flowers nor the corpse reacted.
It was as though they really were nothing more than an ordinary patch of flowers and a corpse.
At that sight, greed flickered in everyone's eyes.
"Baby! Baby, look! I brought the supplies back..."
After running more than ten meters without encountering any danger, the boy happily waved to his girlfriend. The only thing he found odd was that the bag seemed a little heavy.
The girl was about to say something.
But the old woman moved faster.
Two weathered, wrinkled hands clamped onto the bag of supplies and immediately began rummaging inside.
"Ma'am, you..."
The boy frowned and was about to speak.
Just then, the grandson beside the old woman stared fixedly at the bag and began wailing.
"Grandma! Grandma, I want meat! I want meat..."
"All right, all right. Grandma will give you meat. Grandma will get you some meat right now..."
The old woman spoke as though no one else was there, seemingly oblivious to the boy's dark expression.
She tried to snatch the bag right out of his hands.
But she wasn't strong enough and nearly stumbled to the ground.
"Oh, how could you do this, young man? Bullying an old woman! I only wanted to pick out some supplies first. Why are you holding on so tightly? Are you afraid an old woman like me will steal your supplies?!"
Those words left the boy stunned.
Seizing the opportunity, the old woman snatched the bag away.
The boy was about to grab it back.
But then the overbearing old woman let out a shriek.
"Aaaah! There's... there's a... ghost..."
Before she could finish, her voice abruptly cut off!
They looked over and saw a bloody hole in the head of the old woman who had been rummaging through the bag.
What had killed her was a tiny hand like an infant's. No, rather than a hand, it was a tail.
Yes, a tail.
Following that tail with their eyes, everyone saw an aged human face inside the bag of supplies.
"Meow~!"
