Fan Shang escapes his school and spends roughly a week surviving in the Weird World before joining Liu Tie’s inner circle. Betrayals during that period—including an incident in which his roommate nearly got him killed—make him reluctant to trust others or reveal his full capabilities 14 26.

He initially keeps Little Black for companionship, believing animals are more reliable than people in the apocalypse. After the cat repeatedly warns him of lethal danger, he comes to regard it as a trusted partner rather than a pet 14.

Finding his younger sister remains his central long-term goal. His death announcements repeatedly express regret that he has not found her, while his own thoughts emphasize his promise to protect her 5 11 49.

Appearance

• Height and initial build: Around five feet seven inches tall, initially skinny and not visibly muscular 2.
• After awakening: White hair, corpse-pale skin, and an emaciated appearance following extreme blood loss 15.

Personality

Fan Shang is guarded, pragmatic, and unwilling to surrender scarce supplies merely because others demand them. He considers promises of repayment unreliable and treats threats against his belongings as potential threats to his survival 2 11.

His strongest loyalty is to Little Black. He regards the cat as a companion he can trust absolutely and responds with lethal violence when others try to seize or harm it. At the same time, he does not believe Little Black owes him loyalty and would not have blamed it for fleeing danger 3 14 21.

He neither presents himself as a hero nor accepts a general duty to rescue strangers. He refuses to condemn Jiang Yu’s survival choices, recognizing that he has also killed to stay alive, but declines to intervene on her behalf 11 49.

His ferocity does not make him indiscriminately reckless. He fights the Compound-Eyed Sunflower because escape is impossible, then immediately flees the stronger Cat-Faced Ghost when warned. Even his protection agreement with Zhou Ping explicitly allows him to run from danger beyond his abilities 18 44.

He favors concrete exchanges over appeals to friendship or status: he pays Cheng Chen for guidance and offers Zhou Ping protection in return for strengthening food rather than accepting him as a lackey or adopted son 24 44.

Awakening grants Fan Shang greatly increased strength and reactions while leaving his body in a half-dying state 15.

Briefly manifests Sequence energy into a Ghost Road belonging to the Underworld Soldier 19.
