Pen Immortal

Bai Yunxi's phone rang. Not long after he answered, his expression changed.

"What's wrong?" Ye Fan asked, full of concern.

Bai Yunxi shook his head. "Nothing. My eldest brother's daughter is sick. I'll go see her after work."

Ye Fan blinked. "She's sick? Should I come too?"

Bai Yunxi shook his head. "No, don't come."

"Why?" Ye Fan asked in confusion.

"My grandfather is there too. I'm afraid you'll drive him up the wall!" Bai Yunxi said seriously.

Ye Fan was thoroughly unconvinced. "Aren't you overthinking it? Everyone loves me-even flowers bloom when they see me. That old man says he doesn't like me, but deep down, he might be terribly fond of me... Some old men used to be like that too. They were always scolding me, but someone later told me that the more they loved me, the harder they were on me."

Many old men in the Jade Cloud Sect used to find him irritating and constantly criticize him. Later, however, he discovered that those elders actually liked him very much and even wanted to send their disciples and descendants to become his concubines.

Bai Yunxi was speechless. Ye Fan really was brimming with confidence.

"Just hurry up and take care of that matter for Celestial Master Zhang. If you drag it out too long, those special forces soldiers might end up with lasting problems," Bai Yunxi said irritably.

Ye Fan nodded. "All right, I'm off. Don't miss me too much!"

Bai Yunxi gave a cold laugh. "Don't worry. I don't have time to miss you."

Ye Fan was speechless.

As soon as Bai Yunxi got off work, he went to the hospital. Xiao Chi hurried out to meet him. "Where's Ye Fan? Didn't he come with you? I heard you two are together all the time!"

Bai Yunxi shook his head. "No! What's wrong?"

Bai Yunxi suddenly recalled Ye Fan's words. Everyone loves me. That old man says he doesn't like me, but deep down, he might be terribly fond of me... Could Ye Fan have been right? Does Grandfather actually like him quite a bit?

Xiao Chi frowned, looking deeply worried. "Something's wrong with Momo! If Ye Fan were here, he should be able to help."

"Something's wrong? What do you mean?" Bai Yunxi asked, puzzled.

"It looks like she's possessed!" Xiao Chi said.

Bai Yunxi's expression darkened at once. He had thought Momo was merely sick, never imagining she was possessed. If he had known, he would have brought Ye Fan along.

"Grandfather, why didn't you tell me sooner?" If Xiao Chi had said something earlier, he would have brought Ye Fan.

"Momo was unconscious before, so we couldn't tell what was wrong. As soon as she woke up, she started acting strangely," Xiao Chi said.

"I'll go take a look."

Bai Yunxi entered the hospital room and saw Bai Momo sitting on the bed, eating roast chicken. She wasn't even using chopsticks, just grabbing it with her hands.

"What's going on?" Ye Fan asked his eldest sister-in-law, Zhu Xueying.

"As soon as Momo woke up, she started saying she was hungry. If we don't give her food, she bites people. She's become unbelievably strong. It's very strange! She's already eaten two roast chickens," Zhu Xueying said, her face filled with anguish and worry.

Bai Yunxi frowned. "This can't go on!"

Bai Yunxi thought, Bai Momo may be young, but she's already vain about her looks. She's always talking about losing weight and hardly eats much. I've never seen her eat like this before. If she keeps this up, she could eat herself to death.

Bai Momo, who had been wholly absorbed in eating her roast chicken, turned her head and glanced at Bai Yunxi. An unnatural gleam shone in her eyes, sending a chill down his spine.

Bai Momo opened her mouth in a grin at Bai Yunxi. The smile was indescribably hideous.

Bai Momo lunged at Bai Yunxi with astonishing speed.

The Fortune-Turning Beads on Bai Yunxi's wrist erupted in a flash of green light. Bai Momo was instantly sent flying and slammed hard into the wall.

A black shadow separated from Bai Momo's body. Bai Yunxi saw a skeletal monster with an enormous mouth.

Bai Yunxi took out a sheet of Talisman Paper and threw it at the black shadow, shouting, "Break!"

The Talisman transformed into a bolt of lightning and exploded.

The black shadow let out a scream and fled through the window. Xiao Chi watched from the side, dumbstruck.

"Yunxi, that bracelet of yours?"

Bai Yunxi looked at the strand of Fortune-Turning Beads on his wrist. "Ye Fan gave it to me."

Ye Fan had told him that someone with a heavenly yin constitution was a potent source of nourishment for ghosts and monsters. If they discovered him, they would naturally target him, which was why Ye Fan had given him the Fortune-Turning Beads and Talismans for protection.

"What did you throw just now?" Xiao Chi asked.

"A Lightning Talisman. Ye Fan gave me that too," Bai Yunxi said.

Xiao Chi nodded and sighed in relief. "That brat may be asking for a beating, but he does have some ability..."

Bai Momo slowly opened her eyes and looked at Bai Yunxi, bewildered. "Uncle, where am I?"

Bai Yunxi frowned. "You don't know?"

Bai Momo shook her head. "I don't!"

Xiao Chi looked at Bai Momo in displeasure. "Momo, what did you do before you passed out? How did you get mixed up with something like that?"

Bai Momo shrank under Xiao Chi's glare and said timidly, "I was just playing Pen Immortal with my friends. Then I felt something touch my head, and after that, I didn't feel anything."

"Of all the things you could play, you had to play that!" Xiao Chi said furiously.

Bai Momo covered her mouth, her face contorted with pain. "My stomach feels so bloated!"

"You ate too much. Have the doctor prescribe you some stomach medicine," Bai Yunxi said.

Xiao Chi followed Bai Yunxi out. "Yunxi, that thing just now seems to have escaped."

Bai Yunxi nodded. "Yes."
