Background / History
Childhood and family crisis
Qin Yu followed his older brother, Qin Yuheng, around as a small child. He was only two or three when Qin Yuheng was sent abroad; when they reunited roughly ten years later, Qin Yu had become distant and hostile toward him 70.
During Qin Yu’s childhood, an enemy bankrupted by the Qin Family kidnapped him and his mother. The kidnappers demanded that Qin Feng abandon a major development project, but Qin Feng refused. Qin Yuheng appealed to Old Master Qin, who halted the project and arranged negotiations while secretly contacting the police. Qin Feng nevertheless continued the project behind their backs. Qin Yu survived the kidnapping, while his mother died 135 136.
Qin Yu grew up without knowing the circumstances behind his mother’s death or his brother’s exile. Qin Feng told him that Qin Yuheng lived comfortably overseas and returned only to seize the company. Xie Lingfeng likewise claimed that Qin Yuheng intended to take Azure and cast Qin Yu out 118 124.
Life under Qin Yuheng’s guardianship
When Qin Yu was fourteen or fifteen, Qin Yuheng made him choose between staying with him and going with Qin Feng. Frightened, Qin Yu chose his brother. Qin Yuheng had him pay respects to their deceased mother and thereafter supported his comfortable lifestyle, but forbade him from acknowledging Qin Feng as his father 118.
Qin Yu received a monthly allowance of two million, with additional money available for classes and examinations. He also had a trust fund. Qin Yuheng screened suspicious people around him and warned him against abusing the family name or damaging the family’s and company’s reputation 6 45 175.
His position attracted marriage-alliance schemes. Xie Lintian encouraged his children to approach Qin Yu and hoped his daughter would marry him, allowing the Xie faction to gain control over the Qin Family. Qin Yuheng knew about these ambitions but initially held back for Qin Yu’s sake and out of respect for the Xie patriarch 68 70.
Appearance
Qin Yu is handsome and well-built. His looks, physique, and wealthy background make him popular on campus, where both male and female admirers watch him play basketball 5.
- Wears the expensive diamond watch Qin Yuheng gives him for his birthday 3.
- Later wears Yu Nian’s silver necklace beneath his collar 10 135.
Personality
Qin Yu initially appears warm, generous, and loyal—qualities that attract Yu Nian. Once they begin dating, however, his self-centeredness becomes increasingly apparent. He expects Yu Nian to accommodate his preferences, interprets a lack of arguments as proof that everything is fine, and struggles to consider another person’s perspective 5 10 80.
His wealth reinforces his sense of superiority. He regards reconciliation as something money can buy, looks down on small streamers as “online beggars,” and assumes Yu Nian should appreciate being chosen over wealthier potential partners. He enjoys flattery even while despising the people who offer it 6 10 134.
His attitude toward Qin Yuheng combines pride, envy, and fear. He boasts about his capable brother but resents being overshadowed by him. Although domineering outside the home, he becomes cautious and submissive in his brother’s presence 1 6 124.
Qin Yu expresses regret after losing both Yu Nian and Qin Yuheng’s support, but repeatedly centers his own humiliation and losses. He treats Yu Nian’s new relationship as something stolen from him and wants family reconciliation without understanding the harm Qin Feng inflicted. Even after learning the truth, he cannot answer Qin Yuheng’s question about whether he would grieve for their mother rather than focus on his own danger 118 125 134 136.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Birthday banquet and breakup
Qin Yu insists that Yu Nian attend his birthday party, describing it as a small gathering of friends. At the lavish banquet, he leaves Yu Nian isolated, calls him merely a friend, and fails to stop Xie Lingfeng’s class-based insults. He also entertains introductions to potential partners in front of him 1 3.
Yu Nian confronts him afterward about the neglect, secrecy, and new contacts. Qin Yu dismisses the complaints, offers to transfer two hundred thousand, and admits that he has forgotten Yu Nian’s gift. Yu Nian ends the relationship 5 6.
Repeated attempts to reconcile
Qin Yu pays a student one thousand yuan to switch seats so he can sit behind Yu Nian during class. He later displays the necklace and says he deleted the contacts added at the banquet, but Yu Nian explains that the breakup is about Qin Yu’s behavior—not jealousy 9 10.
His subsequent attempts include an apparent effort to provoke jealousy through Tao Yan, disruptive gifts and messages during Yu Nian’s livestream, and following Yu Nian to Cloud-Gathering Mountain after learning his destination from the stream. Qin Yuheng intervenes and orders him to stop harassing Yu Nian 21 44 45 47.
At a karaoke venue, a drunken Qin Yu admits that the relationship began on a whim but claims he has genuinely fallen in love. Yu Nian refuses another chance, telling him that affection requires equality and respect 58.
Estrangement and office fight
Qin Yu secretly enables Qin Feng’s return to Liangwan, believing he can restore the family. Qin Yuheng regards this as a betrayal, slaps him, and disowns both father and son 117 118.
When Qin Yu later begs his brother to take him back, he discovers that Qin Yuheng and Yu Nian are dating. He accuses Yu Nian of seeking revenge and money, blames Qin Yuheng for stealing his former partner, and starts a fight. Yu Nian intervenes and explicitly states that Qin Yuheng is the only person he now likes 124 125 126.
Isolation and family revelations
Without Qin Yuheng’s support, Qin Yu struggles to manage household staff and expenses. His former friends desert him, and he realizes that the status he took for granted depended on his brother 125 134.
Qin Yuheng arranges to send him abroad. Their argument escalates into a physical confrontation, followed by the revelation of Qin Feng’s actions during the childhood kidnapping. Qin Yu says he would never have brought their father back had he known, but Qin Yuheng rejects this explanation, takes the necklace, and leaves 134 135 136.
