Catch someone cheating? Who?
Before Pei Yang could figure it out, Song Yixiao got out of the Porsche with an umbrella.
If Pei Yang had still harbored any hope that he had mistaken someone else for him, it was shattered now.
Feng Wanting had parked in the perfect spot. The wipers swept intermittently, making the view clear, then blurry, then clear, then blurry again. Pei Yang was now absolutely certain that it was Song Yixiao.
His phone had broken when he dropped it, leaving him no way to call again. In silence, Pei Yang watched his boyfriend carry his umbrella to the hotel's brightly lit entrance and slip an arm around a sweet-looking girl.
The girl nestled coyly against Song Yixiao's shoulder, her slender waist encircled by his arm.
"..."
No sensible businessman would be stupid enough to open a hotel in such a remote suburb, but Pei Yang had heard of this one. Apparently, the owner kept several mistresses, and, afraid his wife would find out, had simply built a hotel out here in the middle of nowhere.
He hadn't intended to make money from it, but business had turned out surprisingly well.
-Because the owner wasn't the only one keeping mistresses.
Pei Yang couldn't describe how he felt. Those two looked like the leads on a movie screen, beautiful and romantic beneath the pouring rain, while he was merely a bedraggled spectator.
When Song Yixiao bent down with a smile to kiss the girl in his arms, all the blood in Pei Yang's body rushed to his head. His vision blurred for a moment, and his hands began to tremble uncontrollably.
"That man," Feng Wanting suddenly asked, just as Pei Yang felt he might suffocate, "do you know him?"
He was obviously asking a question he already knew the answer to. Unwilling to lose his composure in front of someone else, Pei Yang steadied his voice. "I do more than know him."
"He's my boyfriend."
"We've been together for four years."
At that, Feng Wanting gave Pei Yang a slightly sympathetic glance.
Pei Yang's face was expressionless. If not for his hands trembling in his lap, no one could have told that he was watching his boyfriend cheat on him.
"If you're going to get out and catch them in the act, could you wait a moment?" Feng Wanting searched around the car. A moment later, he fished a phone out of the gap between the seat and the door and opened the camera.
Click, click.
The shutter sounded twice. Realizing that he was taking pictures, Pei Yang turned his head. "What are you doing?"
"Collecting evidence." Feng Wanting dropped a bombshell. "The girl your boyfriend has his arm around is my fiancée."
"..."
Once the two beneath the umbrella had finished kissing and cuddling, they pushed open the hotel door together.
A man and a woman going into a hotel after making out-any idiot could guess what they would do next.
The thought that he wasn't the only one being betrayed suddenly made Pei Yang feel a little less awful. He scoffed and cursed, "How fucking pathetic."
Feng Wanting replied with a smile, "You're still more pathetic."
"Why?" Pei Yang wasn't remotely polite. "We're both being cheated on. What makes one better than the other? How am I more pathetic than you?"
He had watched his own boyfriend cheat on him, yet instead of stopping them, he was sitting here arguing over which of them was more pathetic. Feng Wanting raised an eyebrow. "My family forced this engagement on me. There are no feelings involved."
After a pause, he asked Pei Yang, "Is that true of your boyfriend, too?"
"..."
Fuck. This guy didn't have a shred of sympathy.
A flicker of irritation crossed Pei Yang's eyes. He was so cold he wanted to shiver.
He folded his arms and rubbed them. "Turn around. Go to the hotel."
Feng Wanting: "?"
Was he treating him like a chauffeur?
Feng Wanting wasn't angry. He obediently followed the instruction and started the car, a hint of excitement in his voice. "Are we going to catch them cheating?"
"Catch them cheating? I don't have time." Pei Yang's voice was flat. "I'm getting a room."
He was soaked through, and there was a hotel right across the road. Getting a room to take a hot shower was perfectly normal. Feng Wanting missed the possible double meaning of those words and, seemingly on purpose, parked the Maybach neatly behind the Porsche.
Once the car had stopped, Feng Wanting kindly took out a black umbrella and offered it to Pei Yang. "Go on."
"Come with me." Pei Yang didn't take it. "I broke my phone. I can't get a room."
Pei Yang's eyes were bright. Though mud had splashed onto his face and the rain had washed his gelled hair out of shape, his disheveled state couldn't hide his striking looks.
Feng Wanting had a meeting later. He had come this way to "incidentally" photograph evidence of his fiancée's infidelity so he could call off the engagement. Picking up this pitiful passerby had already been outside his plans, and his momentary kindness had earned him even more unreasonable demands from the "passerby." Who was going to make up for all the time he had wasted?
His body and mind took opposing sides. Knowing full well that this man would delay his meeting, Feng Wanting still got out with the umbrella and walked around to open the passenger door for Pei Yang.
The umbrella was a little small, leaving two grown men crowded beneath it. Their shoulders bumped unexpectedly.
Feng Wanting instinctively shifted to the right to put some distance between himself and Pei Yang, tilting the umbrella.
By the time they reached the hotel lobby, one of Feng Wanting's shoulders was soaked.
He gave it two elegant pats, took out his ID, and booked a suite.
The receptionist returned the key card and ID to Feng Wanting with a smile. Sharp-eyed, Pei Yang spotted the name on the ID and silently repeated it to himself.
Feng Wanting.
Before Pei Yang could speak, Feng Wanting offered, "Do you need me to go up with you?"
"Yes." Pei Yang's Adam's apple bobbed. With his eyes lowered, he headed toward the elevator ahead of Feng Wanting. "Thank you."
Finally, something decent out of his mouth. Feng Wanting followed him.
After opening the door with the key card, Feng Wanting checked his watch. The meeting would start in ten minutes. Even if he left now, he would inevitably be late.
Yet despite being the central figure at the meeting, Feng Wanting remained unhurried. He set down the key card and turned around.
"Mr. Feng."
He had barely stepped one foot through the doorway when Pei Yang stopped him and asked, as though they knew each other well, "What's the craziest thing you've ever done?"
Feng Wanting stopped and looked back at Pei Yang, his gaze neither warm nor cold. He said nothing.
"Hello." Just then, a server stopped outside the suite with a trolley. She knocked on the slightly open door. "There's a complimentary bottle of red wine with the suite. Would you like me to bring it in now?"
"Give it to me." Brushing against Feng Wanting, Pei Yang took the bottle of red wine, deftly removed the cork with a corkscrew, and closed the door.
Without a glass, Pei Yang drank straight from the bottle. After a long swig, he leaned languidly against the wall. "When I was nineteen, a male pervert secretly took pictures of me in my school dorm."
"When I found out, I asked him to get a room with me, and sent an anonymous tip-off beforehand."
"When he showed up, I seduced him until his eyes were full of lust. As he was taking off his pants, the police kicked the door in. I cried and made a scene, insisting he was raping me."
"In the end, he paid me compensation and got a year and six months in prison."
A seductive flush reddened Pei Yang's lower eyelids. He looked at Feng Wanting through wine-hazed eyes and continued, "Afterward, a friend who knew the truth thought I'd lost my mind. He said I'd been far too reckless. If the police had arrived even a moment later, I might actually have been raped."
"That was one of the crazy things I've done."
"Just one."
"The next one is..." Pei Yang set down the wine, took off his suit jacket, and casually tossed it onto the carpet. "Right now."
He walked up to Feng Wanting and breathed the scent of wine against his face. "Would you be willing to wait while I shower, Mr. Feng?"
