Background / History

Song Yixiao met Pei Yang at university. During an encounter at the school’s back gate, Pei Yang grabbed his arm and called him his boyfriend to defy his abusive father, Pei Zhi. Song called security to remove Pei Zhi, and later remembered the incident as a turning point in his relationship with Pei Yang 95.

Song pursued Pei Yang, who regarded him as a source of comfort during an isolated period of his life. He publicly announced their relationship through photographs posted in a university group chat with more than seven hundred members and on his campus intranet account. Song, Pei Yang, and Xia Jingmo subsequently formed a close friendship, although Song knew that Xia had romantic feelings for him and did not tell Pei Yang 16 19.

By their breakup, Song and Pei Yang had known each other for six years, dated for four, and lived together for barely half a year. Song had promised them a home together and suggested raising a dog because Pei Yang could not have children. They named the dog Xinji to mark the beginning of their new life 7 8 25.

Song left a stable job and invested his savings in starting a business. When confronted, he repeatedly disguises self-serving decisions as acts of care. He describes his affair with Lin You as a sacrifice for their future and claims that concealing Xia Jingmo’s feelings protected Pei Yang’s friendship. Pei Yang instead accuses him of enjoying having both men revolve around him. Xia Jingmo and renewed pursuit

Pet hospital confrontation

• Song spends a week watching FK Group’s headquarters without finding Pei Yang, then waits at Xinji’s hospital. Xia confronts him there, correctly suspecting that he hopes to see his ex 55 56.
• Song admits to himself that he accepted Xia as a substitute for Pei Yang during his loneliness and became tired of him within two days. When Xia slaps him, Song declares that he would rather be Pei Yang’s dog than continue dating a stalker 56.
• Xia’s attack on Feng Chuxun ends the encounter. Pei Yang leaves with the child and abandons his effort to take Xinji, explicitly refusing to let Song keep using the dog as a connection between them 56 57.

Financial strain and final documented rejection

• Song’s company faces a cash-flow crisis. Xia contributes his savings and borrowed money, including loan-shark loans, but the amount is insufficient. Song unsuccessfully approaches Lin You again before selling the Porsche; by Chapter 94, the company is nearing profitability 94 95 97.
