Earlier, Tang San had seen another Shrek student arrive and expose Oscar's scheme.
He had known then that there was little point in keeping up the act.
Since the other side had been frank with them, Tang San had to show some sincerity as well.
So he explained why the two of them had come.
When Dai Mubai heard that their teacher was an old acquaintance of his headmaster, a trace of suspicion arose in his heart.
Headmaster Flender actually had friends?
Was this another tyrant from some mountain stronghold?
After talking things over, both sides decided to go straight to Shrek's headmaster and find out the truth.
At this hour, Flender should still have been minding his shabby little general store.
And so the four of them arrived at Flender's shop.
They had talked quite a bit along the way. Hearing about Tang San and Ma Hongjun's grueling training, Dai Mubai and Oscar could not help feeling a little sympathy.
They had it just as bad. It looked like their teacher and our headmaster really did come from the same school.
Tang San, however, noticed a difference. Even Ma Hongjun picked up on it.
There was nothing about recovery after training, and much of it was simply exercise for exercise's sake.
Just as they were about to bring this up, they reached Flender's shop.
As luck would have it, they caught Grandmaster and Flender just as the two were heading out.
"Hello, Headmaster!"
"Good morning, Headmaster!"
Upon seeing Flender, Dai Mubai and Oscar immediately stood at attention and shouted.
"Teacher, what are you doing here?"
"Yeah, yeah! Is this somewhat shifty-looking fellow your old friend?"
Unlike Dai Mubai and Oscar, Tang San and Ma Hongjun were much less formal with Grandmaster.
"Yes, that's right. Since you're here, come inside and sit for a while."
Grandmaster nodded, then looked at Flender.
Flender had been plotting how to teach this rude little fatty a lesson, but Grandmaster's look made him snuff out the thought for the moment.
"Ahem! Since you've managed to meet, you must have some affinity. Come inside and talk."
It was not that they could not return to Shrek Academy, but the place was too shabby to entertain an old friend.
Once inside the general store, Tang San's sharp eyes spotted quite a few Soul Tools.
Most, however, were either junk or things of little practical use.
Grandmaster did not know much about Soul Tools either, only their general construction.
The development of Soul Tools on the Douluo Continent seemed to have suffered a break in its lineage. Reviving it would require archaeological research.
Recently, however, Spirit Hall seemed to have taken action on that front.
Besides the Soul Tools, Tang San also spotted some good finds.
One was a piece of plate crystal containing tens of thousands of strands of hair crystal, which could be made into Dragon Whisker Needles.
The Dragon Whisker Needle itself was also one of the types of ammunition used by the Peacock Plume.
Tang San shifted his gaze away from the plate crystal. He could condense his Blue Silver Grass to achieve the same effect, but he did not particularly like using such vicious, torturous methods.
Of course, it was not that he did not know how. He simply had never had occasion to use them.
Continuing to look around, Tang San's eyes lit up again. There was a piece of dark teal amber on a shelf. If he had not once devised a plan involving it, even he might have overlooked it.
"Third Brother, what are you looking at? Isn't this place full of junk?"
Under Dai Mubai and Oscar's admiring gazes, Ma Hongjun asked Tang San in confusion.
"Fatty, nothing and no one in this world is absolutely useless. The goods here might look dirty, but they could be treasures concealing their own brilliance, waiting for someone destined to take them away."
Tang San's words were music to Flender's ears. Petty as he was, he had nearly decided to make Ma Hongjun suffer just now.
Just what I'd expect from Grandmaster's personal disciple. Clever, with a discerning eye!
Looking at the Twenty-Four Bridges Bright Moon Night around Tang San's waist, Flender determined that Tang San was Grandmaster's personal disciple.
His Soul Power was at level thirty, but it was actually much deeper. Had he been holding back his level like Oscar?
This little fatty, Ma Hongjun, was the same. I'd underestimated him. He was another monstrous genius.
"Ahem, why don't you introduce yourselves first? Let's see what Soul Rings you need."
"When Mubai reaches level forty, we'll all go to the Star Dou Great Forest together."
Seeing how outstanding Grandmaster's disciples were, Flender could not help feeling competitive.
"Oscar! You first! Tell them everything!"
"Yes, sir!"
Oscar instantly stood at attention and shouted.
"My Martial Soul is Gourmet Twin Hands. It counts as a Body Martial Soul, but its effects are closer to those of a Food-type Martial Soul."
"Food cooked by my hands not only becomes more delicious, but also has its properties enhanced."
"For example, when I cook a sheep's penis, which boosts virility, it can let whoever eats it keep his golden spear standing for three whole days~ Hehe~"
"I can also expend Soul Power to create all kinds of food directly, provided I know how to make them."
"The more complicated the food, the more Soul Power it consumes, but the better its effects."
Tang San was astonished. What a powerful and unusual Martial Soul. This was already approaching the [Food Dao].
Normally, a food-type Soul Master could only provide one kind of food, and its effects depended entirely on the Soul Skills of their Soul Rings.
But Oscar's Gourmet Twin Hands needed no Soul Rings. Through culinary skill alone, he could bring out the properties of food.
In other words, its effects were not limited by food types or Soul Rings.
"Huh? Then what was with your stinky tofu and sausages?"
Ma Hongjun asked.
"Because those two are the easiest for me to make, and I like eating them too."
Oscar spoke with a beaming smile. Feeling the others' admiration put him in a wonderful mood.
"But this Martial Soul does have its limits. My Soul Rings can't give me Soul Skills. The recovery effects you felt earlier were all things I developed through my own cultivation."
"Doesn't that mean Soul Rings can only help you break through?"
"Not exactly. A Soul Ring can give me a slot for quick production, like a ready-made meal."
"I can choose one kind of food, along with its effects, and store a record of it there. When I create it out of thin air again, it uses less Soul Power."
"Not only that, Little Ao's food also provides astonishing boosts. You know the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, right? His food provides the same boosts."
Dai Mubai added this, and even Grandmaster could no longer sit still.
"Flender, you..."
"Relax! I know. I've had Oscar conceal his real Martial Soul. In public, his Martial Soul is just a Big Sausage."
"Mm. Sausages are meat, so they count as a high-grade food Martial Soul. That way, he won't overdo playing the pig to eat the tiger."
Flender naturally understood how heaven-defying Oscar's Martial Soul was. It was heading straight for the Divine Domain.
If those dog-and-donkey bastards from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect found out, who knew what they might do?
Oscar was an orphan he had adopted. Of course he had to raise him well.
Tang San also realized that Flender truly considered him and Ma Hongjun his own people, and he felt a little more fondly toward this elder.
But Shrek Academy's way of doing things... Grandmaster would probably stay now and reform Shrek Academy. I might end up enrolling too...
"Speaking of which, Little Ao, that little fatty said earlier that you'd replaced one of them with stinky tofu, didn't he...?"
"Gah! Headmaster, I worked so hard to develop that new stinky tofu recipe! I couldn't bear to give it up!"
With Flender's dangerous gaze fixed on him, Oscar immediately wilted.
"Then hurry up and put more thought into your sausages! What matters more, your life or stinky tofu? Hmm?"
"Other than Tang San and Ma Hongjun, have you revealed it to anyone else?"
"Most of the people on the street were scared off by my [Five-Spice Food Cart]."
"I only showed it because Tang San and his friend looked like such fine young talents, and I wanted to bring them back to Shrek."
"Mm, very good. But did you ever think about how much effort it would take to plug the leak if you failed? Go! Run fifty laps around Suotuo City!"
"Wait. Finish all the introductions before you leave."
Before you continue
