Background / History
Oscar was an orphan adopted by Flender, who recognized the exceptional potential of Gourmet Twin Hands and instructed him to conceal it. His public identity was that of a sausage-producing Food-type Soul Master, disguising a much broader ability that could rival the enhancements of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda 37.
Before Grandmaster’s reforms, Oscar’s cleverness and support role spared him some of Shrek’s harshest treatment, but he still had to work at three restaurants each day. He attempted to recruit Tang San and Ma Hongjun by presenting the academy as his struggling family restaurant and describing its teachers as impoverished, infirm dependents. He hoped successful recruitment would reduce his training workload; Dai Mubai exposed the scheme 36.
Appearance
- Bushy white beard: Initially conceals much of his expression and contributes to his scruffy, sleazy-looking presentation 36.
- Handsome face: Revealed when Ma Hongjun burns away his beard and shaves off the remains with the Phoenix Emperor, without injuring his face 39.
- Attachment to his beard: Defends it as “masculine charm” even after its removal 39.
Personality
Oscar is clever, sly, and fond of bawdy humor. He uses convincing performances to recruit prospective students, teases his companions about romance, and readily trades insults with Ma Hongjun. His initial attitude toward combat is evasive: as a food-type Soul Master, he argues that he can simply run away, prompting Grandmaster to criticize his laziness and inadequate danger awareness 36 38 45 51.
Cooking matters more to him than maximizing his cultivation speed. His Martial Soul does not inherently suffer from the slow cultivation associated with food-type souls; his early progress is limited by laziness and the time he spends researching food. He nevertheless takes pride in his natural talent, refuses an immortal herb as unnecessary assistance, and values freedom more than noble titles 48 92 97 134.
His humor does not prevent loyalty or consideration. He reveals an embarrassing incantation to spare Ma Hongjun further ridicule, sympathizes with restaurant workers, and trusts Tang San enough to support him against a Titled Douluo 46 48 116.
Abilities & Skills
Gourmet Twin Hands
Oscar’s hands enhance food through cooking and can directly create dishes by expending Soul Power. Unlike ordinary Food-type Martial Souls, their effects are not restricted to a single food or to conventional Soul Ring skills 37.
- Culinary enhancement: Improves flavor and strengthens the food’s existing properties 37.
- Direct creation: Produces food without ingredients, provided Oscar knows how to make it 37.
- Cost and complexity: More complicated dishes consume more Soul Power but provide stronger effects 37.
- Quick-production records: Each Soul Ring provides a slot for recording a food and its effects, reducing the Soul Power needed to recreate it 37.
- No conventional ring skills: His rings enable breakthroughs and production slots rather than granting ordinary Soul Skills. His restorative effects are self-developed 37.
- Adjustable potency: Can deliberately lower food quality to conceal its percentage-based enhancements 41.
- Freshness: Freshly prepared food has the strongest effects 103.
Support Foods
| Food | Documented effects or use |
|---|---|
| Stinky Tofu and Big Sausages | Early restorative foods; Oscar favors them because they are easy to make and he enjoys eating them 36 37. |
| Replenishing sausages | Sustain long-distance travel, restore teammates before Soul Ring absorption, and support allies during battle 46 51 74. |
| Super-Tough Muscle Sausage | Increases toughness and defense while reducing the duration of control effects; presented as his “third soul skill” 48. |
| Meat Mountain Black Pig dishes | Cooked jointly with Ma Hongjun. Their energy helps Ning Rongrong, Zhu Zhuqing, and Lin Like advance in cultivation 48. |
| Small pink cake | Restores mental energy and condition 100. |
| Chocolate finger biscuit | Replenishes stamina and Soul Power 100. |
| Chicken noodle soup | Directly created to restore Dai Mubai’s physical condition before he absorbs a ten-thousand-year Soul Ring 101. |
| Sushi | Restores Tang San’s stamina, Soul Power, and vitality after his battle with the Man Faced Demon Spider Emperor; prepared from real ingredients following Zi’s description 103. |
| Restorative soup | Used to nourish the imprisoned, malnourished Tang Hao 115. |
| Lethal Devil-Spicy Dried Tofu | Raises all attributes by 60% for ten minutes, but inflicts tremendous bodily damage. Supplied to Tang San before his confrontation with the Sixth Elder 116. |
Culinary Combat
Oscar applies food creation offensively rather than remaining entirely behind his teammates 60 64 74.
- Channels steaming hot soup through a red-glowing palm during a feint against the Imperial Fighting Team’s rear line 64.
- Combines ice cream and hot soup with his companions’ attacks to shatter a steaming chamber’s glass through thermal expansion and contraction 74.
- Trades blows with an agility-type opponent in a one-on-one Soul Fighting match, although he loses 60.
- Remains vulnerable to tactical deception: Grandmaster uses Luo Sanpao as a distraction, knocks him unconscious, and takes his stored sausages 60.
Cooking-Based Cultivation and Multitasking
Grandmaster trains Oscar to treat the entire cooking process as cultivation, including menu planning, ingredient selection, preparation, and service. The intended goal is to develop him into a true Food God, not merely a support Soul Master; this remains an aspiration rather than an attained status 61.
- A kitchen provides a suitable cultivation environment for his Martial Soul 57.
- Since childhood, he has practiced cooking more than a dozen dishes simultaneously 140.
- This practice develops control comparable to seven apertures exquisite heart, without instruction in Heart Separation Control 140.
Perception and Practical Knowledge
- Detects approaching wolf bandits by their odor 68.
- Uses culinary knowledge and prior Soul Tool discussions to identify an underground ruin as an ancient kitchen and infer that its announcements come from artificial intelligence 74.
- Recognizes Five-Flavors Essence through a legend learned from Shao Xin 74.
- Uses Sound Transmission, a skill required of Shrek students 41.
- Performs the elaborate ancient Heaven Dou tea ceremony correctly, though mentioning Ning Fengzhi makes him spill his tea during his contest with Tang San 134.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Five-Spice Food Cart — His strong-smelling street-food setup discourages most passersby from approaching 37.
- Five-Flavors Essence — Five gems representing sour, sweet, bitter, spicy, and salty, recovered from an ancient Power Furnace. Oscar identifies them as imitations of the legendary All-Flavors Essence rather than the original treasure 74.
- Portable kitchen-utensil set — Developed with Tang San after consultation with Shao Xin about incorporating Five-Flavors Essence into cookware. The finished utensils fit together into a sturdy carrying case 97 99.
- Kitchen knife — Used to cut apart the Cotton Candy Beast and locate its core 99.
- Eight-Petal Immortal Orchid — Offered by Tang San as a gentle treasure that could gradually assist cultivation up to level seventy. Oscar declines to absorb it and hints at saving it for someone he likes; that person is not identified 92 93 97 98.
Relationships
- Flender — Adoptive guardian and headmaster. Protects Oscar’s Martial Soul secret but punishes his careless exposure of it with an order to run fifty laps around Suotuo City 37.
- Tang San — Close friend, teammate, and cookware collaborator. Protects Oscar during Ning Fengzhi’s questioning, earning Oscar’s gratitude and willingness to stake his life for him 97 99 136.
- Ma Hongjun — Friend, fellow cook, and frequent sparring partner in verbal banter. Helps at Oscar’s restaurant; Oscar shares his vulgar incantation to ease Ma Hongjun’s embarrassment 39 48 61.
- Dai Mubai — Senior teammate whom Oscar calls “Boss Dai.” Helps explain away his unusual abilities and praises his intelligence as second only to Tang San’s 36 48 68.
- Yu Xiaogang / Grandmaster — Teacher who corrects his combat complacency and develops his cooking-based cultivation. Later addresses Oscar’s lingering fear after the Seven Asura Illusion Realm attack 38 60 61 132.
- Ning Rongrong — Teammate initially regarded with suspicion because of her sect affiliation and arrogance. Receives permanent free membership at his restaurant in exchange for keeping Gourmet Twin Hands secret from her family 41 42 61.
- Shao Xin — Culinary adviser and source of the All-Flavors Essence legend. Helps Oscar and Tang San design the use of Five-Flavors Essence in cookware 74 97.
- Zhu Zhuqing — Teammate who perceives his true Martial Soul aura as an endless imperial banquet but tactfully describes it as a Big Sausage to preserve his secret 49.
- Lin Like — Teammate who promises to protect his secret. Her Soul Tool knowledge also contributes to his understanding of the ancient food-processing ruin 61 74.
- Ning Fengzhi — Sect master whose interest Oscar fears. Investigates Oscar’s restaurant and questions him about his unusual cooking abilities 134 135 136.
- Tang Hao — Tang San’s father. Oscar supplies restorative food during his imprisonment and reassures him of Tang San’s ability during the Sixth Elder confrontation 115 116.

Trivia
- His “I Have a Big Sausage!” incantation was invented to support his Food-type Soul Master disguise; it is not a Soul Ring-granted requirement 48.
- He initially has a cabin to himself because his stinky tofu and spices make sharing it intolerable 43.
- His enthusiasm for stinky tofu extends to a cake that replaces cream with softened, fermented tofu, driving Flender and the others out of the room 97.
- Tang San’s early suspicion that Gourmet Twin Hands might be god-bestowed is explicitly a guess, not a confirmed origin 36.
